Yes, that was the name of the convention which we participated in held at Ft.
Leavenworth.. Anyway, thanks for all that showed up and played. We played with a
couple X-type rules. Pre-set terrain and all generals were bold. Many were a bit
hesitant about the pre-set terrain, but the verbal response has been pretty
solid so far. I will let them chime in with any thoughts they had on it.
15mm, 1600 points, 3 hour rounds, pre-set terrain, all generals bold
The results:
Jon Cleaves - Han Chinese - 15
Charles Yaw - Italian Condotta - 10
Scott Holder - Asiatic Successor - 9
Michael Turner - Late Imperial Roman - 7
Jon Becker - Alexandrian Imperial - 4
Todd Schneider - Araucanian - 2
Thanks to all who came, especially Scott and Jon B. who made 3 hour drives

Steven did a great job with this tournament. We had expected 2 to 4
other players, but circumstances prevented their attendance. A
couple of comments on the X-rules used.
1. All Generals are bold, I really like this for tournaments. It
is sometimes fun in one-off or league games to see one of your
commands just sit with an unreliable general on Wait orders, but not
in a tournament.
2. Pre-set terrain. It worked out very well because Steven did a
very fair job of the way he placed it. There were about 4 to 5
pieces per table and they were positioned so as to affect the battle
but not dominate it. Pretty fair for everyone. One of the few
things I do not like about Warrior is the giving some of the armies
an advantage in terrain selection. Now, I understand this is to
simulate who invaded who and this is great for one-off or league
games, but in tournament play we should all be on an level field.
3. 3 hour time limit. It was not quite long enough. We orginally
planned on playing 3 1/2 hour games and then on Saturday morning
someone said if we play 3 hours games we can all go over to Mike's
pool and swim and drink beer! That was such a great idea at the
time that everyone agreed. When the games were actually played we
needed the half hour we didn't have. And, everyone was tired when
we finished so we didn't even go to Mike's :(
So 2 of the 3 worked very well. I thing we will see thier use again
in Kansas City.

Steve did indeed run an awesome event. The prizes were super and the rules
issues non-existent.
AAR comments on times:
Although many had issues with the 3-hour limit, I would point out that even 3.5
hours means finishing at 9:30 pm or later, so the *only* way we were doing
something at Mike's after would have been to do 3 hours and start at 9:30 am
sharp or earlier.
If the arrival time is 9:30 and you have preset terrain that is not yet out, you
are not 'starting' at 9:30.
At HCon, the start is 9, but the players are expected to be there at 8:30 am in
order to get matchups and tables so that they can actually start placing terrain
at 9.
If we have a certain start time for a tourney with preset terrain, the judge has
to be there an hour earlier at a minimum, and therefore so does anyone helping
with terrain. We did not factor that in.

Steve: Thanks for running it. I thoroughly enjoyed all three of my
games. The time limit was probably only a factor in my first game
with Mike (LIR) because both of us needed to finesse things more
than we might normally do. Another 30 minutes *might* have made a
difference but that's a problematic statement at best. And as Jon
stated, we probably needed to factor in setup time better. Having
said that, the facility we were in also caused delays which was out
of your hands. All in all, you did good!
Your laying of preset terrain was *perfect*.
My deployments in games 1-2 were lousy, which is in keeping with how
I play Warrior. Nonetheless, this event was of immense help to me
in prepping for Hcon both as an ump and player (Antigonus, Demetrius
and Pyrrhus are on the march!).
My drive home was 4 hours due to road destruction and accidents on I-
70 between KC and Blue Springs and the slooooooowest McDonald's
drive thru in Misery:( :(

Hmmm...I don't remember them all three fighting together. Demetrius (and
then his son Gonatus) went at it with Pyrrhus over the throne of Macedon,
didn't they? I still say Gonatus has a better army AND a better
personality than his daddy and grandpa, Scott!! :-)
