Harlan
and San Antonio Guys
Thanks for remembering me.
The 19th of July is already committed. For a Birthday celebration.. The
Good News is that I finally drove to San Antonio, and left the city without
getting lost. So I guess I will ask for directions to get down to see Dave
or Greg. Perhaps, If things change I may be able to come down.
I will try to keep my schedule clear for August
I look forward to seeing you guys then.
Did any new Warrior books get published in time for Historicon?
We started a little group of about 6 adults and about 6 teenagers into a
small group of wargamers, her in Killeen Texas. We have played DBA with
some of the guys. I hope to 'graduate' them eventually to Warrior. I
understand there may be some DBM Guys around here somewhere. I hope to get
a little club going. Right now WWII, WWI biplanes, AWI, and 7YW are the
favorites.
Harlan, could I have a new address and phone roster for our group? I seem
to misplaced the one you sent me, earlier this year.
Hope to hear from you all soon.
Thanks,
Grant Johnson
my new address is:
611 Red Cloud
Harker Heights, TX 76548

Harlan,
Sorry I did not make the tourney....Just moved into a house here near Fort
Hood, a couple of days before this event.
My beautiful wife, had lots of Honey do-s for me to get at.
The good news is that I found all my WARRIOR miniatures and rules. Yeah!.
I guess for this tournament the final placing 4th to last place finish was
secure. Maybe next time.
I hope to link up with you all, later this summer.
Please, keep me in the loop I really appreciate the emails, I look forward
to my next trip to Arlington, TX.

I've found the NASAMW list for later hoplite. Below is my stand and take it
like a man Phokian list. Please add your commentaries about how this list
sucks, how you'd change it, and how you'd defeat it. The theory here is that
everyone is high morale as possible. Peltast checker board with the hoplites
all in column to start, then shake into line or maniples depending upon need.
Cav stay in the rear on flanks to counter punch whatever pops through the
expendible LI to there front, while LC work either a flank march or as missile
fire absorbtion units. Artillery hold a flank from a hill (hopefully).
In the line, send LMI forward if facing EL, but hide them behind hoplites if
facing mounted or missile troops. Try to push everything off the board with
hoplites, but things that pop through get hit with LMI in next bound. Everyone
that matters is eagar, LI and LC will be sacrificed for the sake of making the
enemy tired. I've chosen not to take any subgenerals as I'm not using Spartans,
and I have no ally generals since I only intend to fight an active defence on my
side of the board. IIRC under attack orders I have enough LI and stuff to keep
something moving forward, which in turn allows me a few unprompted charges at
first opportunity(again hopefully). I want this army to be able to absorb
massive amounts of punishment, not inflict it. The thought is that 7 units can
rout and still the army will have enough left fresh to crush the opponant's now
tired victors. ah plans

Grant,
I will email you a list of names later this week. There use to be two 7th
Edition players in the Killeen/Gatesville area, Martin Wolverton and Brian
Pipper. Brian moved to Idaho and I believe Martin works at the Woman's
Corrections Facility at Gatesville. Martin and Brian hosted our Killeen
tournaments at Central Texas University across the highway from Fort Hood.
It is a great venue for a tournament and we would draw people from all over
Texas and Louisiana. I have lost contact with Martin, but hopefully someone
on this discussion group has Martin's telephone number and will forward it
to you.
Happy War Gaming,
Harlan
