Getting my hands on Warrior finally has brought back some recollections of
its predecessors. I suffer from incurable romanticism in my favorite army
choices and it showed in my limited tournament experience.

I remember my Spartan army ... those A class LTS weren't too bad. But LTS get
killed by Romans and pikes. Too bad I sold off the figures before DBM came
out and greatly enhanced the status of Spear troops.

My vikings were a loaner army that I tried out for speed before deciding
maybe it wasn't my best choice either. I did have one glorious tournament
battle in which my wedging Irr A beserks took out a SHK wedge that had
smacked into the front of my bondi block. The next battle when a Sassanid
(on-table) flanking march took out my line before I could do much about it
wasn't so much fun.

Those Carolingians were just a complete flight of fancy. Irr C MI,JLS,Sh.
HC,JLS,Sh (non-wedging). The LMI,B,Sh Lombard archers were fun. The time a
unit of MC charged a bow block and somehow broke it will go down in the great
glory memory bank. (Once again, an army that would have enjoyed the switch to
DBM ... if I'd every finished painting it.)

Paging through Warrior and Biblical Warrior, I am reminded of the challenges.
Some dog troops you just have to hide on the table top. Morale and attrition
are back though. And that is great. Never could understand the abstract
representation of those things in DBM.

If I could just figure out a way to paint quickly, so I could play matched
pairs of historical armies -- like DBA -- then I could put some of those
armies' whose history I like.

>Two words: Fast Warrior. The playtesting really shined with
historical pairings.
