Fellow Warriors,

We had a comp down here in Sydney on the weekend just past. The format
was 25mm, 1300points on 6 by 4 tables- 6 games. There were two games
a day for Sat, Sun and Mon. (A long weekend down here) Game time= 3 and
a half hours . There were 16 starters.

There will be rules questions to follow once I've sorted my notes out
but here is the heads up on the action.

There were again a few Pike based armies but they did much better this
time- due to the table size perhaps ? (Although the winners were also
amongst the top rated players)

Congrats to the winners.
1st Martin Williams 24 points -Alexandrian Macedonian
2nd Darren Holmes 24 points (count back) Seleucids
3rd Paul Collins 20 points- Seleucids
Guy Sheppard was awarded the "best and fairest". (Arab Conquest)

amongst the other armies run were
Med. Spanish
Gauls
100 years war English
Russ
Assyrian
Indian
Nikephorian Byzantine
Teutonics
Andalusian
Scots islanders
Araucanian

I had a very enjoyable comp using Med Spanish (Aragon) -Hey.... someone
had to try the Moogs.
Game 1 saw me line up against Guy Shepard's Arab conquest. Guy managed
to get his troops in pretty much the right spots. Then he managed to
roll some of the most appalling dice I have seen in a long time. Not
only did the A's not go up they invariably went down big. 5-1 to the
good guys.

Game two- vs Martin Williams and the Alexandrian Mac. I liked the look
of the match up and went in with high hopes. Those hopes were quickly
dashed. I got my guys into in excess of of a dozen combats where they
were in with a chance of doing some damage- but they didn't. In the
end I was reduced to charging SHK at light infantry to try and pick up
a point- And even this was unsuccessful. A comprehensive 0-5 to the bad
guys.

Game 3. The foe on this occasion was to be Murray Evans' Andalusians.
Despite being led by a well rested general (nobody goes to bed at
9:30!!!) some problems with some light troops and some REALLY bad
shooting dice lead to a series of failed wavers and and early finish.
Perhaps Murray was already thinking of the beer in the Grand final
corporate box. 5-1 to the good guys.

Game 4. I met my Nemesis- Darren Holmes using Seleucids. Hmmm........
facing scythed Chariots gave me my first dilemma should I expose my
"secret" method for dealing with scythed chariots- In the end there was
no need. After some traditionally good play by Darren- we got stuck in
and some reasonable dice and lots of blood, saw the honours even. 3-3
draw

Game 5.
The first monday match saw my Spanish in trouble early. Mike Morgan's
Gauls got an early charge on a unit of LI with some Chariots and spent
some time in a prime position behind my flank. My flank marching LC
decided not to come on the 8 bounds we had and things were looking grim
for a while. The Moogs acquitted themselves well and there was a period
of time where if you weren't -at More- you weren't in the game. A real
old fashion blood feast that could have gone either way. 4-2 to the
good guys.

Game 6.
The opponent on this occasion was Paul Collins and he had Seleucids.
No Jumbo's- no Chariots- again I thought I was in with a chance. The
first bound looked promising with an early rout of some pesky LC, but
then the rot set in. Paul got his flank march on in the first bound
with a six and used them well. I made a pretty basic error with some
LMI Bowmen (Which I further compounded by forgetting to even shoot with
them at the guys who were about to charge them!!!) I managed to stop
the rot at the cost of 3 units but it held up other units which would
have been useful elsewhere. The game was typified for me by the final
combat- where I final managed to get some Moogs into some pikes. The
moogs got prep shot for 3CPF's on an "Up 3" shot by some nearby archers
and then faced pike who rolled up a couple. (do pikes always roll up or
is it just me ??) 1-4 to the bad guys.

The definition of a good army is one that you enjoy using even when
they are losing- I'll use these boys again.

Thanks to all my opponents for enjoyable games

The next comp. down here in Oz is a fast warrior comp on the weekend
of the 22nd/23rd November in Newcastle.

7 games over two days

All invited [accommodation provide for any OS players making the trip
Smile- come on guys there have got to be some cheap flights somewhere ]

Cheers,

Greg P.
