Are themes regularly held as team events? Only half the players need

to own an appropriate army.

I know it won't work perfectly, but what about trying to start open tourneys

with as close to historical match ups as possible instead of a pure random

draw? Of course after round one, all bets are off, but that might also be a

good

way to at least get a few more historical match ups.

We did that one year, back when we were still in the Tennis Barn.

Twas a Roman theme of some type.

I don't think it did anything to increase participation in terms of

sheer number of players.

That being said, I love thematic tournaments and we can certainly do

this at Cold Wars. We only do one theme per year (two proved too be

too many year in and year out) but another idea to ponder would be

for one year run the Hcon Theme on Friday as a Doubles event. I

don't want to do that this year, I like to give everybody plenty of

advance warning but next year, if there's enough interest, I can

look into making Cold Wars another "Doubles Theme". The biggest

question would be what theme.

Scott,

Why not use the same theme each year for Historicon and Cold Wars. The fact

that the Cold War tournament would be a team event would allow enough

variation.

I'd rather not have the theme as a team event. Just me.
