I spent the day yesterday in J'ville. I went to pick
up my new army, a tired ass old R-partha Norman army
with various other bits tossed in.

First, a note: Anyone wanting to sell old ralpartha
norman or early crusade k-niggits, please email me.
Crappy paintjob or raw lead only. I can't afford
artwork. I'm also interested in spearmen, fyrd types,
and the archers with half shaven heads.

War in J'ville:

I haven't so much as played any wargame against
another being for almost 7 years. In that time, I was
astounded at how much I retained! However, two
factors lead to the days results: My IrrgA
personallity running an IrrgA Norman army, and rust.

Derek ran Assyrian from the Warrior lists, but I used
the old NASAMW Norman list, as neither of us had the
correct list on hand.

Derek's army as I face it from left to right:

16 Rg C LMI B
2 IrrgB Lch B
sub IrrgB 4horse Hch J/B
16 RgB LMI B/Sh
sub IrrgB 4horse Hch j/b
CNC heavy chariot
12 Li j/sh
16 LMI B
16 LMI B
sub as heavy chariots
16 LMI b/sh
2 light chariots
4 Rg B LC B

my army from left to right:

Sub with 5 IrrgA/B Hc L/sh
another sub as above
24 Irrg B/C HI/MI J/sh
another sub as aboe
24 HI'MI J/sh
6 IrrgB HC L/sh
CNC as sub w/p
24 HI/MI J/sh
sub as HC
8 IrrgC LC J/sh
In front of each opening and in front of the HC were 3
12 man LI units with SS, B, and CB.

roughly 1200 pt each.

Initial bound: Derek pushed forwar his infantry and
Lch, leaving the heavies in the rear. I pushed my
entire line forward with the HC hanging about 40p back
from the infantry.

Bound 2 the light chariots shot my left sub for 2, so
he charged, caught them and routed them shaking the
RgB LMI and a subgeneral. On the right, his chariot
canceled the impetouos charge of my LC, so his LC
charged into mine. Derek rolled down, I rolled up and
his little 4 man unit became exhausted on the spot,
but did not rout. My far right HC charged the Lch
away and rolled long, then rallied back.

Bound 3 on the right the HC that rallied back was shot
into forced charge by the LMI B/sh, so they charged in
and took something like 14 CPF coming in. I landed
against his LMI with 5@-3, and rolled up 1 converted
to 3, so I did 1 CPF, but he exhausted and exploded
him. No one cared Smile My LC finished off his, then
exploded the next bound from the Lch charge and LMI B
shooting.

At the risk of shortening an already short game, I
just say that I plowed kniggits into stuff, killed it
then died in place just like I remember Normans doing.
But then around bound 5 I noticed that I had run out
of HC except the two stuck in the middle of the board.
I had been pushing the HI all the while and actually
charged a shaken LMI unit that got away because it was
in skirmish! Then the end came with the right HI unit
was shot for 2, I rolled the one moral check I didn't
need to roll and they shook. Game over.

Here is what I now remember: I need lots of kniggits,
not just 6 6man units. I also need them to be
together and not dispersed, as I personally am prone
to offense and HI do not make for good offense. The
next game will be better, as I have now read Warrior
and have a game under my belt.

Observations: System works well overall. I had some
clunky LI movements reacting to enemy on the flank,
but that is minor. I am confused, but not
dissapointed, that LI simply rally back when facing HI
for a bound...saves HI having to charge them away. I
like the count 5 for lance instad of akward basing for
wedges. I have a L question, why is it the Companion
HC in the FW lists do not count 5 in charge, yet the
thessalians do. Why? Whynot? Japaneese are toast
still Smile The special rules for certain troops are
good, and I think something for the Japs is in order.
My favorite special rule is the Swiss HI P & LHI 2HCT
units; that rocks. DBM has emasulated the swiss, so
pooh on them.

Final amusements: YEAH! Skutatoi get LTS and JLS!
YEAH Crusaders get MI with B and JLS/sh front rank!
Scarry, Scutarii get HTW/JLS/SH...BRING ON THE
ELEPHANTS!

I will be running a couple of fast Warrior games with
my son this weekend and will report any
questions/problems here.
