As your calculations show, it is a very good way of protecting your camp and
the main thing such obstacles that can be deployed in your rear zone are for.

Hi Jon,

A very timely post (for me). I have just begun to organize my
Norman Army, and have been trying to determine whether the 6
Elements of Ditched Palisade @ 20 points is worth taking to put
round my baggage camp.

If I understand correctly, a unit which attacks the camp takes the
following modifiers:

Basic Factor v. TP; + 1 or 2 for charging impetuously (if
applicable), + 1 for mounted/animals charging or counter charging
(if unit is mounted), - 1 or 2 for disordered, - 2 for fighting
across obstacle.

Thus, in the example you gave of 4 EE of Irr LC, the result would be
as follows:

LC charges, but Camp does _not_ take waver test;

LC Support Shoots: 5 -1 Higher elevation, - 2 cover, -2 disordered.
4 @ 0 rolling even = 4.

LC fights: 5 +1 charging, -1 disordered, -2 obstacle, -2 opponent
halted higher. 4 @ 1 rolling even = 6.

Final results are 4 + 6 = 10, less than 1 CPF. LC must break off.

If I worked this out properly, it sounds like ditched palisades are
a great 20 point insurance policy...Yes?

And would look really cool modelled on the table...

Cheers,
Dave Lynch
