Hello Jon:

I have a question about the conversion sheet published in Spearpoint.

Item 9

Troops identified as wedging in the current list will count 1.5 ranks if charging/counter charging and IF they are not already armed with a weapon that ever receives 1.5 ranks.  (e.g.  berserks.  JLS cav wedger. etc.)  Note that this specifically does NOT apply to any troop armed with lance or foot armed with HTW or JLS.

If I read it correctly, it is saying that lances, foot armed HTW, and foot armed JLS are not allow to fight 1.5 ranks deep.

I thought it read that troops that get to fight with half their back
rank from the outset of H-t-H don't get the option to wedge too.
I.E. Viking Huscarls with 2HCW in both ranks get to wedge thus giving
them 1.5 ranks of 2HCW, but those same Huscarls with JLS in both
ranks would not have the wedge option. Am I close, gentlemen?

Harlan,

The explanation to your mistake is right in front of you. It is as plain as
day what the conversion sheet is saying about those eligible to use wedge
benefits and those not. Slow down and read and break the sentences down.

Probably not the best wording. Troop types that are already 1.5 ranks due to
weapons/conditions fight that way. There is no additional benefit to
'wedging' for those troops.
