Well, here's a test to see if you're (or anyone is) normal or not:

1. Do you yell, throw dice, walk off cussing, or insult the umpire
during a tournament?

2. Have you ever insulted your opponant's painting skills or pointed
out that his army figures were not representative of his army list
historically?

3. Do you have 12 different measuring tools--one for each possible
move and/or shoot distance--or a micrometer that you use during a
tournament?

4. Have you ever used the phrase "I measured it, and you are (insert
desired distance + 1mm) away, so you can't do that" during a game?

5. Do you forget to bathe, whipe your *ss, or change clothes during
a tournament?

6. Have you ever picked up your figs and packed them away, stood up
and left a game within the first hour even though the game was not
finished?

7. Do you require beer in order to tollerate all the jackasses at a
tournament?

8. Do you not allow others to handle your figues, dice, or ruler?

9. Have you ever asked someone watching your game to leave?

10. Do you say to your opponant "guess what" then fart loudly and
laugh like a 5 year old?

If you answered yes to three or more of these questions, then you are
an anal-retentive, hypercompetitive *sshole. I haven't met anyone on
this list or at a Warrior event that meets these criteria. Plenty
of them on DBMlist :)

The beer rule should not be applied to members of the NASAMW Southwest Region.
Most of us have been known to regularly drink beer at church services and
funerals.

duly noted. Strike question 7 and insert:

7. do you require a state of drunkeness in order to not yell, cuss
out the umpire or storm away from the table?

Thanks for catching that terribly unfair question Greg. I don't know
what I could have been thinking :)

No, I despise the actions of those who do. But truthfully, I know I have played
such players, but would not recognize even one if I played him again tommorrow.
The most someone like this can do to me is ruin the game, and thus waste a
couple of hours. Risks of tournament play I guess.

This is more tricky. Simple manners dictate that one say nothing if such sins
are noticed, but are you pointing out that noticing is the sin, or just the
unkind act of commenting? I am passionate about history, and so my figures are
as correct as I can make them and are armed as I claim them to be, ie no 2HCW
figures claiming to have 2HCT or LTS. For that matter I won't use LTS figures
as Pike, but that is just out of my belief system about the figures and the
game. Am curious if this categorizes me as having one of the three dreaded
"yes's" to this questionaire though.

I have been called for one of my cardboard measuring devices being too short.
The edges became dog eared over time. I have since had 1/8" aluminum devices
made for both scales, in two different shapes. We do take large formation
wheeling seriously out here and two devices are needed to do it coorectly. The
devices I had machined were machined to the smallest margin, for accuracy state.
So does this qualify as a yes?

I hate this aspect of the game, the laser range finders attached to every unit
on the board, but it is pretty much allowed by etiquette to declare I am 1
micrometer outside your missle range. It definitely takes away from some of the
fog of war of the game, but is absolutely necessary from a tactical sense as we
drop measuring tools between opposing bodies to determine whether we are in
missle or charge range; obviously depending on whether we want to be or not. So
does this qualify as a yes?
>

NOT at tournaments. Those rooms are muggy enough without adding additional funk
to the atmosphere. I have been known to go on 24 hour painting sprees before.

Would be very sad to experience this. I would probably remember someone who did
this to me. I have never experienced this, thankfully.
>

Not to tolerate, but certainly afterwards with said opponents. War stories are
half the fun.
>

Would never say anything unless he was being just ridiculously obnoxious, but
etiquette again pretty much demands you let a guy move his own figures, whether
recoiling, routing or following up. Certainly if they are destroyed. I would
never pick up an opponent's lead without asking or his asking me.
>
> 9. Have you ever asked someone watching your game to leave?

NO, but was once asked to leave. My fault, the game was close and exciting and
I just couldn't keep the kiputzing to myself. Good lesson learned and although
a little upset at the time, have been able to get on with life afterwards.

Only if my opponent is a 5 year old and understands such elegant humor....:^)

I probably am awfully close to your parameters and so will have to be on my best
behavior should we find ourselves sitting across from each other. 8^)

Chris, Of course this is all in fun. Believe it or not, I've had
everyone of these things happen to me during tournament play. I've
been known to throw worthless dice (you know the kind with only
ones), and I've had to drink to remain silent playing obnoxious
wheenies. However, I have always bathed, been complementary towards
paint jobs, courteously not noticed Mongol Assyrians, forgiving of
range errors, and the like. In fact, I usually start games by
announcing that we can save much grief by announcing distance prior
to dicing and just after movement. I have never remeasured anything
already moved unless my opponant questioned it. I am the
quinesential error maker, being a big picture guy instead of a
details man, so I tend to forgive and be forgiven for many errors.
While agressive, I tend to be relaxed about playing mechanically.

Chris the mere fact that you question yourself tells me your not an
anal--retentive gamer. :)

Please add the following questions:

11. Do you make a fuss of players who move their units forward, take a look
at the situation, put them back where they started (or think they started),
and move them again only to review their new position? Even if they do this
multiple times with a single unit?

12. Do you hold your tongue when you see your perform an approach move with
two or three wheels, and sometimes an extra couple of maneuvers tossed in?

13. Do you try to get away with as much as you can get away with to test
your opponents knowledge of the rules?

And hey, was you bathing and wiping @$$ question to weed out the skanky
roleplaying crossover types?

Thanks, Greg, for ending that one with class.

I'll put in a plug for the guys I play with - 9 of 10 are learning Warrior AND
playtesting Fantasy Warrior at the same time. True heroes.

I know Jon wants us to end this thread, but what I have to say is so positive, I
think he will let it go.

The groups of guys I play with, and the guys up in Dallas, are just the greatest
guys to play against you will ever find, if you ask me. Sure, we compete hard
and we have discussions that are pointed, but I have to tell you that Chris
Bump, Patrick Byrnes, Donald Coon and Harlan Garrett up in Dallas, as well as
Chris Tebo & David Beeson in San Antonio and John Green in Baton Rouge, are
about the best group of guys you could ever ask for at a tournement. I can't
tell you the last time we had anything even approaching negative happen at any
of our get-togethers.

I attribute much of this to the WARRIOR set (which is why I'm posting this),
that has eliminated much of the 'wiggle room' from earlier rules sets. This
coming from a bad wiggle room abuser. If you have players that really just want
to compete fairly, this set will give you good times galore!

Greg

P.S. I'm not saying anything against any other groups, since I don't even know
them. I just want to give the Big-D and SA boys their props!
