Richard brings up a great point. I live in Orange County, California (it ain't
"The O.C.") If you don't mind, everyone, could you post the general area that
you live in (or game convention sites that are not to far away) so everyone can
get and idea of where opponents could be found. We have the three Strategicon
conventions and GenCon West just down the road in Anaheim.

The problem we have is, that there is in Europe nobody in our range, who could
just drop by and play a round of warrior with us. This would make many problems
easier to solve.

Again thanks for the plain explanation.

Cheers and happy gaming

I would say not.

First off, the smallest HC unit is a 2 element body. Such a body of
troops would have 6 figures. 27 divided by 6 is 4.5, which rounds
DOWN to 4. You always round the fractions DOWN in Warrior.

And yes, 4 cpf is still a mean thing to do to small HC unit.

That said, if that HC has lance, they will elect to charge instead
of waver test, so I sincerely hope that your Reg LMI with JLS is
amply supported, because if they fail their waver test for being
loose order troops charged by mounted in the open, they can plan to
kiss their butts goodbye.

Yes - in fact, it is not an uncommon idea to try and shoot an
enemy body into disorder (3cpf) before committing to a charge, as
charging certain steady enemy bodies borders on hara-kiri levels of
tactical acumen (steady Pike blocks and steady LTS blocks, or
Knights charging elephants come readily to mind).

You are looking for Rule 2.31, page 10, of the Warrior rulebook.
Under the list of bullets that indicate what the various
abbreviations mean for various weapons are a set of 4 arrows. The
first arrow in Rule 2.31 states:

"JLS is also a close combat category. Troops cannot use JLS as
a missile weapon if they are armed with a longer range missile
weapon or ARE CLOSE ORDER FOOT."

By the way, please keep in mind that NOT all close order troops
are Reg.

MI, HI, EHI, and SHI (either Reg or Irr, doesn't matter) cannot
use JLS as a missile weapon.

Also note that Elephants and SHC (close order troops) are exempt
from this because they are mounted troops, not foot.

Incidentally, the first half of that arrow is important as well -
if you have loose order troops or cavalry that have JLS, B, Sh, and
they get to 40 paces of an enemy, they will STILL BE SHIELDLESS to
shooting, even in skirmish, because they will ALWAYS use their bows
to shoot. You cannot chose to use JLS as a missile weapon if you
have ANY other missile weapon.

> hope that nobody is annoyed with such a noob questions.

Nope, no annoyance. Warrior is a rather involved game that has a
steep learning curve in the beginning. All I can say, is keep
playing, and also, keep reading the rules.

Asif Chaudhry

I live in Cambridge Ontario and I'd love to play some Warrior. We have 2
cons in the area with a Warrior Tourney at Migs in Hamilton.

Northern California has the following regular Warrior players:

Mark Stone - Sonora (near Yosemite)
Alex Stone - Pacifica (near San Francisco)
Lenney Hermann - San Francisco
Rich Gagliasso - San Jose
John Bauman - Newark (in between San Francisco and San Jose on the east side of
SF Bay)
Dave Lauerman - Monterey
Dale Shanek - Monterey
Ed Forbes - Fresno (Central Valley, 3 hours from San Jose, about 5-6 hours from
LA)

We have the following regular events:
Manny Granillo runs a strictly historicals convention, "The Shield", in
February; always includes a 25mm Warrior event, 1600 points, billed as the
California Championship.

Dale and Dave run a tournament in Monterey in November; this past November it
was 25mm, 1200 points.

Memorial Day weekend is Kubla Con, a very large, general gaming convention
(historical, sci fi, fantasy, board games, miniatures, etc.). We've run a 15mm
1200 point tourney there, but it's tough to get a good turn-out since there are
so many other gaming opportunities open to poeple.

Labor Day weekend is... hmm... well, the name has changed several times over the
years and I don't remember what it's called right now, but it's another really
big con like Kubla Con.

Hi Ted,

March or May sound great to me. If you need input, the best time for me to
travel would be the weekend of March 18.

Anyone in Phoenix, AZ?

I've been lurking around here on the list for awhile now; biding my time -
mostly waiting for the (highly anticipated) revised rulebook, before I really
sit down to learn. I have a copy of the current book, but it's quite
difficult to get started.

So, as of right now, I am not a Warrior player - but hoping to become one
soon.

Cheers,

Corey

Hi

I bought and read the rules. Its not to hard to play, if you get a
chance to play a game with a couple of guys that know the rules imho
you will be able to pick it up as easily as any other game. I play
alot of dbm, but I love the byzantines, the too do not go hand in
hand and plus I approaches/counters, as well as orders. The thing
that puts warrior I think a bit ahead of alot of other popular games
for the period is that to me it just has more flavor.

I live in Indiana and plan on going to Historicon for the first time
ever this year. Sure I play in dbm comps, but I am planning on
taking the maurikians to 15mm warrior at Lancaster. I havent checked
the site for a bit, but is there going to be fast warrior at HCon
this year?

Thanks
Brad

p.s. Cant wait to see what the revised book has.

Howdy,

Brad, Brad, Brad, we've just got the Cold Wars info up and already
you want Hcon? Some folks are never satisfied Smile I wager Hcon
material will be more-or-less complete and on the NASAMW site in May.
The folks who really get their stuff in on time are the DBA guys.

Best,
Jeff Zorn
