They are doing this on the DBM list, so thought it might be
interesting to get a little background into other folks on this
list. If this isn't something you want to do, the thread will die
pretty quickly I imagine. So....I'll start it off.

I am clearly an _ancient_ gamer, starting out with
the just released WRG 6th in 1980, although a babe when it comes to
Warrior (currently learning the system). Age 51, Geesh, I used to
think 50 year olds were really old...Married to a great lady who
tolerates this passion we call ancient wargaming (she still thinks
I'm a taco short of a combo platter, though.) Degree in Business from
KSU (that's Kansas State University for those East of the
Mississippi); currently Managing Director for an IT Consulting
Services Firm here in KC.

Veteran of the US Army, 2nd Bn/7th Cav, 1st CavDiv, Viet Nam,
Republic of, where I spent 11 months and 17 days a long, long time
ago. 5 years total service, spending time in Korea and Germany as
well.

4 children, all have flown the coop, so to speak,(son just graduated
from KSU with an architectural degree)...hmmm...wonder if he could
make me some 15mm Medieval buildings...hmmm... Have a 14 year old
Yorkshire Terrier that thinks he's a Doberman, or a small hairy
person.

Currently painting 15mm Teutonics (Mirliton), and waiting in the
wings are British Celts, Mongols, Huns, Late Romans, Marian Romans,
all in 15mm. Looking forward to playing in some Warrior comps and
pondering
sponsoring a tourney locally this fall at Border Wars. Enjoy the
painting part of the hobby, but unfortunately every time I paint up
an army, somebody makes me an offer to buy them that I can't refuse.
Decided to move into 15's to avoid basing issues that are existent
with the newer larger 25mm figures out there, plus job and family put
painting and gaming time at a premium.

For those that are interested, I have a website dedicated to
miniature wargaming. It's still under construction primarily in the
army section. Website is: http://www.miniwars.com

<<I think WARRIOR is the bomb, and will say two things about it. First, we have
a ton of new players around here since the rules came out, and second, my wife's
store purchased some rules sets and army list books, and they sold out in one
day.>>

God bless you, Greg. What can FHE do for you today?

This doesn't seem like a bad idea, so I will pitch in.

I'm a 42 year old artist from San Antonio, Texas. I'm married, both to a wife
that runs a hobby shop (that doesn't suck, by the way), and to wargaming. I have
been playing ancients since the late days of 6th Edition. I even played DBM ...
once. I also enjoy playing flag football and softball, as well as coaching youth
tackle football, where I have actually won a few city and one state
championship. <~~~ bragging! Now and then, I like to commit golf.

I'm a small part of the NASAMW Southwest region, which although relatively new,
is good sized. Our region has some good players, but what we may be best know
for is having many very fine painters, something that is as important as winning
in this part of the country (not to say it isn't in other parts of course).
Right now, the Dallas guys are mostly doing 25mm, but are expanding into 15mm
and the San Antonio guys are mostly 15mm but are expanding into 25mm.

I think WARRIOR is the bomb, and will say two things about it. First, we have a
ton of new players around here since the rules came out, and second, my wife's
store purchased some rules sets and army list books, and they sold out in one
day.

That pretty much says it all!!!!!

Greg

Folks,
My introduction includes the following. 49 years old, married 16
years,1dau,,1son,ages 12 & 7. Teach emotionally disturbed 3-5th graders
in public school. Attended Anderson School of Theology after
undergrad,did a short stint as a pastor.
Have played more different ancient systems than I can remember. Current
favorite is Big Battle DBA. I like Warrior as primarily an historical
battle system. I will play tournaments to practice & meet friends, but my
passion is playing vs historical opponents on the battlefield.
Own 25mm NKEgyptians,a pike army & Byzantines. 15mm Late
Romans,Sass.Persians & some Dark Age stuff.
Fast Warrior has drawn me as well as the rules for Roman ranks
interchangeing with each other which I 1st met in Classical Hack.
Am planning on playing Eric Turner next week which will be my 2nd time in
playing Warrior. Cheers, Francis Reed

My name is John Carroll, and I am a lead-aholic. I am 52, divorced, and my
13 year old son lives with me.
I was introduced to wargames in 1964, via Avalon Hill's Gettysburg. My first
lesson in tactis was when I attacked Seminary Ridge with the entire Union
army at 2:1, and thought it was too much trouble to separate and "soak-off"
Result, A-elim. I have not improved. Through high school and college I
collected the Avalon Hill library, and got in on S&T and SPI. In grad
school, I was introduced to miniatures, starting out Airfix and Airfix
conversions. Robin Hood archers make fine peltasts with Roman heads, and
Stroh's beer tabs for shields. I got a lead fix when a friend sold me his
Minifigs Macedonians, and Garrison Persians. Infantry figures were $.25 when
I started, and I was disgusted when Thermopolites came out at $1.98 fir 6
figures. "No good can come from this, I thought."
I started atending Gen-Con Easts, Origins, etc, all those conventions at
Widener. I never got to play often enough to do well at tournaments (4th
ed?) Maybe it was getting a fresh batch of ammendment sheets at the start of
every tournament. This is how I met Jim Bisignani, my most frequent opponent.
I branched out into other lead, like AWI, Sword and Flame Colonials, bought
and sold off twice 15mm Napoleonics, French & Indian Wars, Blue Max, but I
keep comiong back to Ancients. My current favorites are chariot armies. The
main factor was Redoubt's absolutely gorgeous Trojan Wars range, particularly
the chariots. Other factors were Ral Partha's $.50 infantry shopping bins at
conventions, which have thankfully resumed under new ownership, and getting a
deal on Foundry Egyptians and Sea Peoples figures on a closeout at
Brookhurst.
When I entered the 10 Missing Years, 7th ed came out, so I was spared the .n
editions. I was really turned off by the first bok of chariot war lists with
the 7 guaranteed typos per page. As I got back in, Jim and Mark were still
soldiering on in 7th. To be polite, I joined in. It really helped to have
opponents who were familiar with the rules, as the prose was, ahem,
non-user-friendly, to be charitable. The basic mechanics were fine, but to
me, too much work to try to crack the rules myself. Much easier to say "Can
I do this?"
One thing I like about Warrior, is that is so much easier to follow. The FW
provision is brilliant, allowing one to sample armies you always wanted to
try, but did not want to invest too much in. I tried DBA, but it is too
small, and has no soul. I can try a good size Ral Partha Aztec army for ~
$60, Assyrians for $100. Cool!

Considering how bad I beat you guys up when you started taking out all those
slimmy tricks I used to like ... admitting I was wrong and giving you guys your
props is the least I can do!
