Jon,
Let's say an unit of 4 elements of legionaires (2 in front and 2 in a second rank) are replaced in combat who are facing a Sassanid unit of 3 Sassanid elephants in a line. The Romans are replaced by another unit of legionaires in bound two. How many elephants get to fight and for that matter, how many crew will fight.
I'm unsure but feel that only two crew per elphant and only two elephants fight since it's a new contact but I'm unsure. Can you please clear this up for me?

That combat - for the elephant body - is not first contact and therefore they fight as though a subsequent bound, including any overlap.

My Burmese Elephant crews thank you for your explanation, on the other hand, my legionaires curse your name to the god Mithras.
