Hello Jon.
I "threatened" to ask some game design questions a while back and never got to it. I'm posting them now. Perhaps the new rulebook answers some of these and if so, you can just tell me it's in the book.
If you don't want to answer any of these questions, that's okay, but I'm asking them honestly with no implications. I don't know the answers, and I'm hoping to learn. And please, take your time if you are busy.
Why are elephants and artillery close order?
Why do impetuous foot charges cancel non-impetuous foot charges in most cases?
Does LTS represent more than just a longer spear (suach as a phalanx-like formation)?
Why are scythed chariots so hard to control?
Thanks for your time.

1. El and Art are close order primarily to represent the effect rough terrain has on their efficent operation.
2. Impetuous foot (and all mounted) had a momentum advantage over other types. They were an all or nothing proposition - win right away or get worn down.
3. All weapon categories' effects include how they were used in formation as well as the simple weapon v armor interaction.
4. Scythed chariots opened a fight. The Warrior rules for these systems permit them to be used exactly as they were used and make it a bitch to do other things with them.

Wow, that was quick.
Thanks.
1. Elephants in the woods, yeah, I see it now.
2. Cool.
3. I ask this because there are a few loose troops who get LTS options from carrying longer spears (like peltasts) and yet seem un-phalanx like in formation. When it comes to choosing my armies I like to go with what makes sense to me, regardless of gameplay advantage. Can you tell me any more about this?
4. He he, mission accomplished! I guess I can assume that the battle "begins" when the chariots are released.
Thanks again.
