On p. 59 of the new rule book (this is probably in the old rule book too) I note that Testudo is also called Byzantine Foulkon. This led me to wonder:

(a) Are there any Byzantine lists permitted to use this formation, and (b) if not, how is it that the Byzantines developed a formation they cannot use? Have I overlooked some Byzantine list allowed this formation?

I just skimmed all the Byzantine lists...and can't find foulkon in the list rules or list notes.

Actually, all Byzantine close foot can use this. And it provides them with both cover and doubled shooting ability for D-armed troops.

I guess the two of you just ignore the Byzantine close foot so much that you miss these things.

[Yes, yes, Laughing. And apologies for confusing any newcomers - nothing in this post, other than this sentence, is in fact true.]
