I realise this came up about a year ago (in a post by Greg Preston) but dont believe it was finally resolved. The rules state that camels with lance only fight in a single rank. Back in 2005 John cleaves suggested this needed to be checked and possibly changed. Not exactly an issue of huge import I realise but i've been looking for a chance to use some camel models and the oriental lists certainly provide lots of double armed Lance/bow camels who could be worth a run.

We are in the difficult position in Australia of not having yet received our new rules.

Okay - this is interesting.

page 83: "(LANCE) A second rank of cavalry, camelry or knight armed with L fights at half effect if charging, counter-charging or pursueing and the front rank is also cavalry or knight armed with lance."

So - If I have a 2E MCm L,Sh unit I would only get the front rank since the second rank is NOT behind a front rank of either cavalry or knight, right?

Unless the wording of the text (Black rule book) needs to be "clarified" I would argue that camels do not get a rank and a half with lance.

I would appreciate the clarification.

With all the changes that have taken place over the years - especially with all the list rules - could you folks consider (if the ruling was against camel lancers) to have them fight rank and a half for a little extra flavor?

Todd, Scott and I both thought that was a done deal already. Just taking the time to see what caused the disconnect - a missing word in the rule or do we have some note between us somewhere to a different effect.

I was in discussion with some members from the Deep South and they were under the assumption that you could - the idea being that since there are NO lists that allow camels to be behind cavalry that it must be a typo.

There are so few lists w/ camel lancers and the majority are Medium camels at best - w/ all the new list rules it would add some flavor. Just a thought.

Yes, camels with L can fight 1.5 ranks as suggested on page 83. It will eventually read like this:

page 83: "(LANCE) A second rank of cavalry, camelry or knight armed with L fights at half effect if charging, counter-charging or pursueing and the front rank is also cavalry, camelry or knight armed with lance."
