I'll likely be running a few demo games at a local game-store soon.
Anyone have any advice? Have you tried this before?
Warrior is a little tough to explain in 10 minutes.... what do you leave out?
I was going to do a mini Gaugamela scenario since I have the forces and I don't have to bring that much terrain!.

Noel - I'm thinking of trying to demo Warrior also. There's a local gaming club that I hang out with, where some of the guys have expressed interest. Mainly they game Flames of War, Warmachine, and other such games, so I'm worried that if I try to suddenly throw them a 1600 point game, I'll scare them off. On the other hand, I think they might find Fast Warrior a little too bland to get excited about. I was thinking that if on a regular gaming night, if I got another player to go against me in a matched opponent type game, once someone showed interest, I could give them a quick run down of the appropriate rules and give them a command to run. |

Use a Fast Warrior game for a demo.
By choosing Fast Warrior and taking two basic armies and two small terrain features, you leave out:
Chariots and Elephants, artillery, fortifications
Ambushes, forced and flank marches
most terrain
all of rule 16
Giving both sides attack orders leaves out just about all of 4.0.
Then just teach the sequence of play
You can also use the Demo Game file for ideas.
What could be easier?

What Jon said. Fast Warrior is the way to do this.
Bland? Compared to? No way!

You could also direct people to the Demo Game available for download on the forum here.

A couple of years back I found two members of an Australian (and primarily Canberra) based forum were expressing an interest in Warrior, one was studying Ancient History - the surprise was that neither of them were part of the old ACT Warrior Crowd and up to that point War Machine or GW types and dabbling in Flames of War.
I offered to set up a Fast Warrior game for them at my club - and mindful of the dangers of overkill made it a simple Viking vs Anglo Danish battle.
Far from them complaining of blandness - the next week on the local forum their review was "Warrior Rocks!!"
They moved out of the ACT some time later and have not pursued it further - but it is heatening to know that a very simple line up slugfest in Warrior could elicit such interest.

Okay guys - enough - Fast Warrior it is. I'll try a couple of reasonably matched armies (given the lead that I have) and I'll see how it goes.
Thanks all |
