Tim asked the following question under "Army Lists", but since it is also a rules question I figured I'd post it here. It's a good question, addressing several points I've wondered about myself.

-Mark Stone

Quote:
A Roman unit in fulcum is in first bound H2H combat with an elephant unit with pike-armed crew.

The Roman unit fights as though it is LTS-armed but technically armed with HTW.

Question: Does the Roman unit receive a -1 modifier for facing Pike-armed crew since it fights as LTS ? Or is there no -1 modifier since the Roman is actually HTW-armed but fights as LTS.

Assume the Roman unit recoils in first round of H2H. Can the second rank replaces the first in the next bound, with that rank fighting as HTW at first contact--hence no -1 modifier for that rank--but the second rank does fight with a -1 (and disordered) or is the Roman required to fight in the second bound as 1HCW?

Thanks,

Tim

"Legionaries in fulcum facing mounted troops at first contact are treated as armed (only) with LTS."

So, question one's answer is - they take the -1.

As for the second question, they may indeed make use of the Circulating Combatants rule as they are out of Fulcum the instant they are called upon to Recoil.
