i am sure this in the rules but after a prolonged effort i can't find it. tonight while playing a game a unit of my army declared a charge against 2 enemy units. one was in skirmish and one wasn't. the unit in skirmish evaded. charging an evader is a variable move. did i have to roll a variable move die before completing my charge or did i automatically get my full move because the other unit did not evade but stood. we decided i did and i rolled down and couldn;t contact either body.

thank you

bruce

A charge against both an evader and a non-evader is not a charge against evaders - one of them is not evading.

Full tactical move, non-variable.

Interesting. So in such a situation, the evader would have a chance to roll down, as evasion is a variable move, and the charger would not.

So a charger is more likely to catch an evader if the same charger is simultaneously charging another unit?

Is this the intent of the rules or only an effect?

If intent, what does it simulate?

Effect, and in my view a meaningless one.

The intent is to have a player able to place one unit (the one not evading) in a position to cover the withdrawal of another (the evader). If, because he took too great a risk and placed his screen too far forward and his support too far back, in some tiny percent of cases the evader is caught by the abstraction of the variable move rule combined with the vagaries of chance when he would not have in a case where no support is present but the conditions are otherwise the same - I am cool with that.
