Several questions came up in a game last night regarding flank marches (Frank, chime in if I've missed anything):

1. If a unit two ranks deep approaches on table but can only get the front rank fully on table, and the back rank is fully off table, what is its status with respect to eligibility to prep shoot?

a. It cannot prep shoot.
b. Only the front rank can prep shoot.
c. Both ranks can prep shoot.

2. Would the answer to the above change if the back rank was partially, but not fully on table?

3. A flank marched command must come in in the oppoent's rear zone. There isn't enough room for all units to get frontage in this 240p space, and thus one unit is "behind" another. The unit that it is behind gets partially on table, receives 2 CPF in prep shooting, waver tests, and fails. Is the unit "behind" this shaken unit just stuck there, or does it have some other way it can approach/charge/march on table?

Two general comments:
    * The "black book" rules for off table arrivals are vastly clearer than they used to be;
    * Even though I understand the tactical necessity of accomodating flank marches in the rules, from a rules perspective even these vastly clearer rules allow for a lot of murky situations; not your fault, Jon, it's just a complicated mess.

1 is C

2 is No

3 is Stuck there unless it has some other way to comply (legal interpenetration by either, other legal movement, etc.)

You didn't miss our questions, Mark...it gets messy and cramped when you flank march a command as I did.

Exact placement of elements and how they move is highly constrained.

As the rules warn, I should have thought about flank marches and that command during Army List building.

Still, an entire command on a flank march that arrives in that narrow rear zone is going to strain the rules...but not break them.

Thanks for the clarifications, Jon.
