Hi All,
Looking for recommendations for 15mm Samnites. I am trying to find some figures that will go well with Essex. I know Old GLory has some, but I've never used OG before. Does anyone know of any other manufacturers?

I'm pretty sure Tin Soldier and Donnington have some 15mm Samnites. |

Kelly,
I checked Xyston and in 15mm they don't have Samnites, per se, unless you are talking about the Oscans. How do Xyston figures go as far as compatability with Essex?

Xyston would match better with OG size wise they really are almost a 20mm figure. Essex would look a bit small next to them. |

John:
The Samnites spoke Oscan but have been typically diferentiated a little bit from the rest of the Oscan mobs fighting for supremacy in central and southern Italy. Thus, generic Oscan figures would be appropriate.
Keep in mind that no contemporary Samnite warrior art has ever been found and there's a certain amount of debate over exactly how they would have looked. One could argue they might have had an equal (or some) Roman influence on arms and armor, and vice versa (the old Livy quote that the pilum was a Samnite invention comes to mind). Furthermore, the captured arms and armor the Samnites gained at the Caudine Forks could have given subsequent armies a somewhat "romanish" look to them.
So you could probably go with a mix of both Oscan and Roman figures and be just fine.
Size wise, I defer to others who deal with 15mm.

Johnny,
Ditto what Scott said. Actually, a few months ago, Xyston was showing off the green stuff sculptures of their new samnites and I suppose they refer to them as Oscans now. I own quite a few Xyston figs and I don't get where anyone would think of them as 20 mm. . . Xyston is perhaps the nicest figurine out there.

Thanks all, I had read some of the historical information already, was just looking at some potential 'allied' figures.

They are beautiful figs. I am in the process of redoing my Later Ach persian in them...They are however a solid 18mm from foot to eyeballs yeah not quite 20 but too big in my opinion to mix with Essex |
