It’s been a while since I’ve posted but a question occurred to me while we were playing the other day. In section 6.52 (Interpenetration, pg 61) of the rules it states “...if any elements move clear, the whole body does.”. So, Consider the following....

A column of 3 elephants is 20 paces behind a line of LI one element deep. If the column moves forward 120 paces the first element in the column will clear the line of infantry. As I read the rules this would result in the whole column being placed beyond the line of infantry. In effect this would increase the tactical move of the elephants ~120 paces. Is this correct? Of course the elephants could not then charge or prep shoot so they would be standing around with their...trunks....hanging out Smile But, that is still one heck of an approach move! Thanks in advance.

You have that correct.

The rules required to prevent this but allow all the things we wanted to allow weren't worth it. We found the lack of ability to march or shoot took care of abuses.
