Hello Jon,
Could you please just check the following.
A 2E Irreg C El 2 w/JLS charged a 4E Reg C HI HTW, Sh .
The El unit received twice as many h-t-h casualties and 2CPF.
The El player chose to break off, threw low and was moved back 80P disordered. The HI could not pursue.
In the following bound the El unit turned 180 degrees in the approach phase.
The HI charged into contact. As the El unit was both disordered and in a mandatory rally situation, a countercharge was ruled illegal. Was this correct?
Rule 5.45 (P31) does say that units suffering from rally-cured disorder that are in a mandatory rally situation, ...'may make no voluntary move unless it is a charge response'. Also, the final sentence of this paragraph says that 'a disordered body that evades or countercharges cannot recover in the End Phase of the bound it does so.
But;
Rule 6.161 (P42) says that unsteady troops who are rallying may not charge. And 6.166 (P48) says that a body may not counter-charge a body that it is not eligilble to charge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The stationary El unit then caused the HI to recoil and 'must follow-up' (11.221 P93), but also took 3CPF, failed the waver, became shaken and so could not do so as per 5.142 (P 27), because the waver test result preceeds the combat results move. Was this also correct?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If so, there is now a tired, disordered cohort facing a tired, disordered, shaken Elephant
Thanks, Raphael |

It could have countercharged. Eligibility isn't about being prevented from declaring a charge while in a mandatory rally.
becoming shaken from the 3CPF waver would prevent it from following up. _________________ Roll Up and Win! |

Note, that although the Elephant unit could have counter charged, as Jon states, that would require it to Waver for 'mounted troops attempting to countercharge foot', 5.52, page 32.

Also: the shaken elephant unit would immediately become unshaken when (all of) its hand-to-hand opponents recoiled. |
