the rules still say you can not have regular units in block in uneven ranks.
but now they have this odd exception, like when being modified to defend terrain or drop back elements when passing a gap, for being 'modified' when expanding to follow up.
the reason I ask on the lists forum is because there used to be a Swiss list rule allowing them to expand into uneven ranks. this is no longer there if you look at the list errata on the FHE site.
given all this... if you have a 5E Swiss unit 1E wide can it ever expand in a follow-up?
I no longer have any idea from reading the rules. the list rule was obviously removed on purpose but I am not sure if that is because it was decided the rule made them too strong or if it was because that applies to everyone now.

Page 54, 6.31, Recoils/Follow-Ups
"Regular bodies may be in uneven ranks after a follow-up bust must return to even ranks as soon as possible after the combat is concluded."
Think also about a 6 element Swiss column, 4 Pike, 2 2HCT, that wins and expands out the double 2HCT, which fight in 1.5 ranks...
