As a person who has often admired the Thematic Byzantines for their colorful and romantic history but has been scared away by the dismaying medicrity of the list, I was intriguiged by Scott's throw-away teaser of a remark in the Shield Wall thread about a possible list rule for the Thematics. At this point I have just about enough time to paint up enough new units to field these guys at H-Con.

Enquiring minds are highly curious about this new list rule of which you speak, O enigmatic wise one. SOmething to do with Mark's proposed cavalry rules?

I am also interested in this - I painted up my Thematic Byzantines (25mm Essex) in my teens and love them - they did alright in the last comp I took them too - but I had to rely on ditches and being annoying

Sorry, don't wanna go public for comments just yet. We're up to our eyeballs in Biblical Warrior and since that gets played at Cold Wars, we need to get it done, well, now.

Once more eyes have had a chance to look at it, probably flesh out the mechanics, then we'll open it up for comment. This rule, should it fly, would eventually be implemented for certain, repeat, certain other armies.

In the words of that great sage, Inigo Montoya, I hate waiting.

<grumble>

It serves me right though. I have always said, run an army you can love even when it loses. I shouldn't let a few fancy list rules pick an army for me. Thanks for the tough love, Scott.

Me too. I think this is my historical long-standing favorite, and before that it was the Maurikians. Although enough so that I would even play them as written currently, not being a killer army not being a problem for one who can make a killer army a dead beat army. So I am very interested in what this will be like to play.
