Jon
In our games this keeps coming up.
Foot Units is skirmish "may shoot with up to...two ranks if
foot. All these count as shooting from the front rank's position, but
all ranks after the first shoot at half effect".
Since Sling and JLS only shoot a rank and a half, IE a 12 figure unit
(3 elements wide) would shoot with 9 figures when not skirmishing, I would assune that when skirmishing the 2nd rank or 3 figs would be halfed again to 1.5 rounded up to 2 figs.
Is this correct?, thanks. |

I take it this is a Light Infantry unit...to avoid confusion...the only sort that can be 3 elements wide, 2 elements deep, and 12 figures...(foot unit that is).
I won't comment on the rules issue...as that is Jon's responsibility.

First, thanks for your patience. I try and get to questions the same day they are asked, but when I don't I know it is tempting to step in. Believe me, we don't want the confusion generated in other rules sets by multiple player answers to rules questions. I am perfectly capable of screwing them up on my own, thanks!
That said, I still think I am the most accessible in the business in this area; speed glossing over flaws!
Dennis, the answer is they are only halved once.
The case you were looking for is 8.4
"Figures shooting at half effect count as half the actual
number rounded up, except in the following situations:
• They are halved twice if rear ranks of a body in skirmish
formation (6.45) at long range.
• They are not halved twice if shooting both overhead (8.7)
and at long range, since both these have the same effect of
making a high trajectory necessary."
Halved twice is long range and skirmish, which does not apply to those weapons. _________________ Roll Up and Win! |
