The Glorious All-Conquering Army of King Xanelardos, Blessed of the Gods, disembarked from the boats after a rough sea crossing. "The usual suspects and hostages" were sent off to forage and scout the nearby mountain passes while the Army core gathered on the nearby narrow plain and commenced its march up a river close at hand.

The Senate and the People received the reports of this invasion and ordered up this year's unlucky Consuls to take each of their Red Armies of Workers and Peasants, and Sometimes Reluctant Allies, meet up in the field, and push the invaders back into the sea. The Consuls had complete confidence that their established military system and bountiful manpower would prevail on their sacred soil, and, if not, well, there were always next year's Consuls.

As the two armies drew near and encamped, it appeared battle would be offered and accepted the following day, with Psicoi Faricanus taking his daily turn at command of the combined Red Armies of Workers and Peasants, and Sometimes Reluctant Allies.

Being outnumbered by about 3:2 on foreign soil was not the sort of thing to deter the Glorious All-Conquering Army of King Xanelardos, Blessed of the Gods. The sacrifices were offered, omens read, and as always interpreted to indicate yet another upcoming victory.

The armies broke camp and began to deploy on the field of battle.

(after-action report coming next...)

Sacrifices indicated lots of 6s would be rolled for combat and lots of 1s for approach moves. Cool
