There was a Warrior gaming event at Pointcon last Saturday. For those who are not familiar with it, Pointcon is held annually at the US Military Academy at West Point, and is one of the longest-running gaming conventions in the area.
There was 15mm tournament-style gaming, led by player/umpire Jacob Kovel, but since we had an odd number of gamers I set up a couple of 25mm demo games by the door, to attract passers-by, alerting the event manager, Steve Waddell, that we had openings, and got a good result.
The first demo game pitted Early Canaanite vs. New Kingdom Egyptian. Two walk-ins (one a former 7th Edition gamer, the other an individual with no prior experience of the Warrior game engine but a lot of knowledge of ancient Egyptian warfare) took up the Egyptian side. About 2-1/2 hours later, we had played to a clean decision and had a lot of fun. Egyptians were of course the victors.
The second demo game featured Nikephorian Byzantines vs. Later Carthaginian. Four friends came by, and broke into two teams to play both sides; I officiated. This time, we picked up all LI before the game opened, to improve speed of play and get to the meat of the matter faster; within 2 hours, we had a decision, with the Byzantines getting a lucky up roll on a reg cav charge and catching some evading Reg Spanish Scutarii, routing them with checks all around; a massive scrum of Byzantine Kontaratoi vs. African spearmen in the center; and a wicked slaughter-pen of Irr Scutarii vs. 3 units of Varangians ... mutual death and destruction on an epic scale. Byzantines win.
Lots of fun all around. |

Looks great.!
Love the pics
Oh! The Byzantines always do things in an EPIC scale.
Hopefully, I will be able to make it next year.
Great Idea with the Demo games.
Thanks for the write up
