The third game of the Déjà vu weekend set Scott McDonald's Moldavians run by the visiting Terry Dix who flew out from California against my Anglo Irish.

I have some questions about your list, mostly because I like the list but am curious about how you buy the list:
A Great CIC 6 Irreg'B', HK L Sh
An Unreliable Ally 6 Irreg'B', HK L Sh
2 Galloglaich (Clans Ramsay and O'Lyre) Irreg'B', 32 HI, 2HCW, JLS, D
1 Bonnachts Irreg'C', 36 LMI, 2HCW, JLS, Sh
2 Longbow Reg 'D', 16 MI LB Sh Stakes
1 Lights Irreg'C', 8 LC JLS, Sh
2 Kerns Irreg'C', 16 LI 1/2 S, 1/2 JLS, Sh
Are you playing middle or late period?
CinC is 6 IB HK/HC L Sh PA?
Ally as 6 IB HK/HC L Sh P?
You're buying the Galloglaich as all HI, have you though about buying them as HI/MI?
Front rank armament is clearly 2HCW, JLS, D. Does the second rank having dart D matter?
Bonnachts as all 2HCW, JLS, Sh. Could you save some points by only giving the back ranks JLS?
Do you like 16 or 24 man long bow units better?
How do you like the 1/2 S, 1/2 JLS Kern units? Wouldn't separate units of sling Kerns and JLS Kerns work better on the table?
Thanks

The actual list for this army is below.
For the sake of the AAR, I don't go into all the nitty gritty details because it doesn't add to the story to know what the rear ranks are, unless it comes to a disordered shield-less moment, and then it would be mentioned, usually with a snarky comment.

Just a question
You list the stakes as 2El of MI stakes.
What does that mean????
Are you just buying the stakes or as you buying figs who have the stakes.????

I love your AAR's
I see you mixed it up with Dix.
Congrats to you.
A Faultless battle.
But my question is The MAJOR WATER FEATURE.
I am in the planning stages of making one.
Is that your terrain piece?
It looks really good. If you know how it was make, could you give me some details.
I talked to Rick K about his and have bought some of the supplies necessary.

Stakes are purchased in 1 element lengths. They are carried by an element in the unit. The MI reference is just my excel Visual Basic program assigning a unit type to it. Don't read too much into that. _________________ Phil

That feature was probably created by Rich Kroupa. And if you weren't so busy bashing his Khmers, he might even tell you how he made it. _________________ Phil

Now I just have to get it done.

Nice read on the AAR Phil.
Couple of thoughts/questions:
1. Seeing your list why not go 1/2 HI and 1/2 MI on the Galloglaichs saving you 32 points to be used elsewhere? Probably can't upgrade all the cav to HK - don't have the list in front of me.
2. I'm with Jamie on having two units of Kerns - 1 all jls and 1 all sling - just my preference.
3. List construction on the Moldavians was differenet than my own personal preference. I don't know if I would have used the Tartars and gone with all HK and the excellent LC of the Moldavians - he could have dismounted some of his HK and waded into your Bonnachts as Irreg A EHI Jls,Sh and then followed up with the HK - tough combo.
4. Outstanding job of refusing the right with the flank march and keeping the flanks secure of the Galloglaich as well. Not easy to do with Irregular troops.

Thanks Todd.
Over the years I have run every conceivable combination of troop types with the Anglo-Irish. Regarding the half sling half jls LI, I found that if I ran them more specialized, all jls and all sling, invariably the Kern unit was always facing the wrong enemy. Always! Running sling in the front for both units has two advantages. I don't have to keep track of which one is which, and my opponent will always keep his heavier cavalry away from them. No one likes to take 6 @ 4 for 18 on their knights. Especially if it is from a throwaway unit like the Kerns.
In general, I like my Galloglaich all HI. Flank shots or disorder comes more often than you think, and being hit on the 4 chart is a lot easier to take than being hit on the 6. For these, saved 16 points per unit by having MI in the middle two elements. That way the ends of the units are all HI in case I got hit on the flank, and when I am fighting them, my opponent will charge an edge whenever possible, leaving me with fewer figures fighting, but at least they have the hardest armor.
In the Deja Vu game on Saturday, verses 1600 points of Moldavians, Clan O'Lyre, was in contact and disordered from turn 2 on for the whole game, but Scott McDonald just couldn't do the 96 casualties needed for the 3 cpf to break them.
Irreg 'A' EHI, JLS, SH vice LMI, 2HCW, JLS, SH? Bring it on. I'll take that fight any day. Because I also regard my Bonnachts as a just a terrain holding unit anyway. If they die to a man fighting in Hand to Hand, I consider that a bonus. The Bonnachts charge EHI on the 8 chart. After that, the EHI will know it was in a fight, and I'll pick up with their tired disordered butts with one of my reserve units. _________________ Phil

I like your thinking, just had to ask.
The EHI and HK combo might make you come out of shields all to hit the EHI and then face the HK and a waiver test. Just spitballing how to beat the unit.
Love the AARs - muchly appreciated

The combo will definitely work, especially against unsupported C's. But I still wouldn't care that much. If my opponent is dedicating that many points to beating a 142 point unit, then I have the edge on the rest of the board.
Since usually the Bonnachts are in some kind of terrain, then my opponent, if he is successful, just took a piece of terrain that I probably long since abandoned to run him down anyway. _________________ Phil

Certainly understood, but looking at the battle I don't know where else he could have done damange - truth has it it was a 5-0 for you. If he broke the Bonnachts he'd at least have a 1 and maybe more depending upon waivers of LI and LB. If the LB shake & break then the Gallos are in trouble.
Every line needs one spot to begin the break. Bonnachts were the weakest part of that line. Just talking tactics. Your plan was excellent and tough to crack. _________________ Nolite te Bastardes Carborundorum
