Hello Gentlemen!

Rules book p 140 :
hoplite infantry rules : .... and fight additional figures in subsequent ranks when charging, countercharging ou pursuing where permitted by applicable list rules.
Could you please explain, we don't understand what that means.

The text you note is an unnecessary holdover from the full lists, where some Greek Hoplites are permitted a few more figures fighting under certain circumstances from rear ranks. As an example, Spartiate Hoplites can fight a 3rd rank at half effect when charging, counter-charging or pursuing.

Similarly some hoplites fight 1/4 ranks for the 3rd through 6th ranks to reflect their success against the Spartans when fighting in very deep formations
