Can an element mix weapon categories? It is clear that the Troop type and class must be the same from 2.51.
If so, how does one handle mixed weapons on an element in combat (e.g. Vikings with a mix of JLS & 2HCW)?
Many thanks,
sleepysloo Smile

Well. Here we are on New Year's Eve and I might be the only one visiting the Form. And lo and behold!
A Question arrives:
Actually, my question is: Are you playing a Warrior game to ring in the Year.
Great!!!
I, for my part, am cozily watching TV with my lovely wife. Maybe if we don't fall asleep we will watch the ball drop. That's what old people do!!!!!
Anyway, I hope I haven't embarrassed my friends on the Form. (It's ok guys if you disavow any knowledge of me).

Well, I am not the best person to answer your question, but the example you pose is actually EASY.
Viking with Jls, 2HCW.
First look up the 2HCW on the Chart
Second look down the same column for the JLS +

Therefore, the 2HCW is usually a 5 and the JLS + is 1 Therefore, you would have a 6.

Most troops only have one weapon and then a JLS. That is where the JLS + comes in.
If your troop happens to have more than one. You usually have to choose which one to use.
I hope this helps
HAPPY NEW YEAR.

ED THE NEW YEAR OLD GUY
(Does this mean that I am the last guy to write on the Form in 2014!!!!) Laughing

Thanks Ed and Happy New Year across the Pond (we Brits got there first again!)
My question is, rather, can figures in the the same element have different weapons from each other. e.g. my Vikings have 2HCW 'or' JLS (i. e. NOT both, which I think was how you read my post). And if figures on the SAME element are allowed to differ in weapon category, how do you work out combat. So do you count up the JLS figures and work out the combat, repeating for the other 2HCW figures, then reverse the process for the other side, (so they can be targeting the correct weapon class figure since weapon class of a target can affect the attack on it, I think)?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks again for your advice!

Each element is armed the same (JLS or 2HCW or 2HCW, JLS), although different elements in a body can certainly be armed differently. Chinese spear blocks are good historic example of this, through the different lists. You will see some lists where some elements in a body are LTS and others are B or CB, while other lists like Tang are LTS, B or CB.

Many thanks!
So I'm guessing 2.51 that reads 'same type and class' should be taken to mean ' same type, class and weapon category' , right?

Thanks again!

Thanks Jamie!!! For jumping in and saving me.

For the record, my wife and I didn't make the ball.

For each element of infantry or mounted troops represented by 2, 3, or 4 figures on the element, they will have the same weapons.

The exception would be models, particularly the crew of elephants and chariots. There you will see the case of say an elephant with three crew and two escort infantry, and one crew might be armed with elephant Pike P, driver with javelin JLS, the last crewmen with a bow B, and two elephant escort infantry armed with slings S. Artillery crew is usually all armed with sidearms but I suppose there might be lists that allowed for artillery units with mixed ammo (limited naptha shots or similar).

Dear Ed & Jamie,
Thanks again for the clarification. Now I see why 2.51 is as it is. I'm guess i'm just still suffering from the transition I made as a child from WRG 6th to 7th (in 6th, you may recall, the lack of elements meant a somewhat more 'figure centred mechanic). After (too) many years of DBX, Armarti, FOG, Impetus and SAGA (in that order) and my move into 28 mm I dusted off my WRG 6th rules, but just could not face the debasing involved. 7th also required some debasing in order to field my Vikings, but I just used elements since that is what wedges used to collapse (disordered) back into following most first contacts. Then I discovered this 'Warrior' revamp of 7th, and oh boy was I pleased! Only trouble is I have to play solo or with family since there are no players I can find in my part of England (Cumbria).
Happy New Year!

Bring the family to north Florida, send them to the beach, golf course, various historic parks, or charter fishing for the day. Several of us are in the area and would happily meet you in Jacksonville for a game, or two, or three. Smile

Would love to!
Unfortunately, I can't even get to H-con.
It would be a miracle to get to Florida.
If I could get to Florida, next would to be to
UK and play sleeplyloo(sp).

I would play in a 6th edition tournament Smile.

More seriously, I do think that a FL tournament where there was a separate organised track for families might be a good plan..

Here on Amelia Island there's lots for a family to do while one party went to Steve's Gym for a Saturday Derekcon.
1. Take the family to the beach
2. Take the family to golf course
3. Take the family to see Fort Clinch
4. Take the family charter fishing. I know my cousins take people out and catch all kinds of fish, but I never pay much attention to it. They go on the river, in the ocean, on lakes, etc.
5. Take the family to Cumberland Island
6. Take the family to the Old Town section of Fernandina, the foundation of the old Spanish fort is down on the river bank
7. Take the family to the tennis courts
8. Bike riding
9. There's a stable on the south end of the island where they do horses
10. Stroll around downtown if you are a fan of 1880s architecture. Similar to Key West but a more consistent preservation of the buildings.
11. sky diving
12. kayaking at Talbott island
