Hello All,

When a unit has a legitimate march segment of 240/120 paces, is it allowed to stop short of this distance with no penalty other than not being able to march further in that bound or to charge.

The situation involves a unit which if it marches the full 240 paces allowed will take it over the centre-line of the table (which is not allowed by its current order).

Many Thanks,

Raphael

A unit can always opt to march less than its full. As you note, it cannot march further that bound. I don't actually think it is restricted from charging. This could happen, for example, if an enemy unit was hiding in ambush in the woods, and the the friendly unit marched to within sight (which would be 40p), and thus within charge reach.

I believe a unit that marches is not allowed to shoot or charge in the same turn.

Hell All,

6.2 Marches says 'If a body moves less than the distance permitted (240 or 120 paces) for a given segment.... it may not declare charges in that bound'.

So, I suppose you could perhaps be 280 paces from a wood and march to 40 paces which reveals hidden enemy who could then be charged?

Never managed such a move myself.

Regards,

Raphael
