The Spartacus War by Barry Strauss

With the upcoming theme centered around Rome and it's enemies of sorts I will recommend the above book for interest sake.

This is a little less "history" type of a read and more of a story telling in its flavor. This makes it a more digestible type of history with some built in conjecture and assumptions as well. It will certainly give you a good idea of what is going on during the time period and how the armies fought and with what. Spartacus is a fascinating topic and reading it helped me finally paint the 30+ element of 15mm gladiators for my Spartacus army. Just a few more elements of close foot and I'll have it done.... not that there are any 15mm games anymore, but it is a fun exercise.

Todd

Strauss has authored a number of books that would be of interest to us:

The Battle of Salamis

The Death of Caesar

Masters of Command: Alexander, Hannibal, Caesar and the Genius of Leadership

Those and the Spartacus book are all in my public library.
