Hello All,
Can I please check the following point.
A unit of 12E Ir C LMI (3E wide with 1 Ir A Element in the front rank) is under Attack orders. It has already made its 'free charge' and is now within charge reach of an enemy HI unit.
So, as per its order, P22, 4.51 Tactical Orders, Attack, bullet point 4, Must it charge (unprompted)?
0r, as per P42, 6.163 Declaring Charges, B. Prompting of Charges, bullet point 2, must it now be prompted as it is not 'entirely of Irregular "A" troops?
Many Thanks,
Raphael |

The first option, it must charge unprompted.
I await Frank to parse this differently and tell me I'm wrong.

I've always read this as must charge unprompted. Good to know that I agree with Scott on this one (since his vote counts infinitely more than mine). |

Thank You Both,
This was how I read it also, with the body in question only needing to be prompted if acting under Hold or Delay orders.
Best Regards,

If the unit had the "A" element in it's back rank (or second I would guess) it does not have to charge unprompted.
Eric Turner used that when he was running Spanish in huge 12E units effectively in the NICT.

No one is wrong yet .
If a command has Attack or Probe orders, units in that command CONTAINING ANY Irr A (even a rear element) must charge (unprompted, they need no prompt).
6.163B - body of entirely Irr A, applies to other Orders (Hold, Delay, but not Wait)...whence such a body can charge unprompted.
Note also 6.164 Impetuous Charges. Any Irr A in a front rank requires a declaration as impetuous (unless incapable).
You could, under Attack orders, have a body with a rearward Irr A element that MUST charge...but does not have to be impetuous.
