List 25 for Zulu has a line for IC LI with JLS, S, or B. Are these LI supposed to look like the Zulu warriors? I can get plastic Zulu figs to convert to sling or bow easily enough, I just don't know what the LI represent.
Should there be an option for the JLS armed LI to be regular as representing small detachments of warriors sent out to scout?

I'm relatively certain that the LI will represent young boys not yet old enough to join the warriors. From what I remember (and I just commented elsewhere about my memory, so take it for what it is worth) the Zulu had basically two groups of warriors -- those who were older and experienced (often called "married") and those who were younger and inexperienced (often called "unmarried"). The skirmishers would be yet younger men and/or boys ranging ahead of the main body of warriors as scouts. |
