Benin - AW #17 - 8 scouting - 1601 points

Robert and I played Kanem-Bornu in teams and it was a really fun list.

African Warrior has some real unique type mixes of troops for those who are getting tired of running the same combos.

Here is a different look - it certainly focuses on the fact that there are early modern firearms in use - 160p long range and 80p short.

CinC 2E Reg A LHI LTS,D,Sh + PA - 187

3x 4E Royal Regiments Reg B LMI Jls,HG,Sh - 106 [318]

3x 12E Bowmen/Spearmen Ir D (1C) MI 1/3 LTS,B,Sh 1/3 LTS,B 1/3 Jls - 125 [375]

3x 2E Leopard Hunters Ir A LHI/LMI 2HCW,Jls,Sh/Jls,Sh - 67 [201]

2x 4E Skimishers Ir C LI Jls,Sh - 49 [98]
8E Skirmishers Ir D (1C) LI B - 43

Portuguese Ally 4E Reg C (1B) LHI/LMI 1HCW,HG,Sh - 167
2x 4E Port. Musketeers Reg C LHI/LMI 1HCW,HG,Sh - 106 [212]

3 big blocks of space eaters and shooters to boot.

6 units of early modern firearms - AND they all have either Jls or 1HCW so they can shoot and dig in to fight.

3 units of gaps shooters for some quick impacts.

Certainly a little short on board coverage and the lights are poor.

thoughts?

Todd

You're more like a Meso-American army...with less frontage coverage.

So, you have to think you'll be attacked by getting pinned with skirmishing lights while the bulk of your opponent's good stuff comes down at one point on the end of your line.

Actually there is slightly more coverage than Tepanec as the 3x 12E units should be accounted for.

I thought it was a neat and interesting (and different than the typical 10 armies being played Mr. Debbie Downer).

I believe that Derek shows time and time again that new and different ways to run armies can be very effective.

This army allows for 6 units of early modern firearms - thought that was pretty cool.

I WILL CRUSH YOUR EARLY MODERN FIREARMS!

Seriously, though, they lack LTS or 2HCT...and can't fire HG from the back rank unless in skirmish.

So...meat to lancers, elephants, etc.

If one is really nuts - the army for those who can live without LC is Dahomey - REg A/B LMI, LTS, HG/B/sh plus reg b allies plus 4 units of EHC, L, Sh - it is very fun and brings firepower with ability to handle heavy cavalry (Knights etc)- still painting mine, and have played Kanem Borno as hate being outscouted - it does not fit my playing style- but super fun army. Red sea Jihad is also interesting - plus some of the Dahomey allies.
I think these are a blast - as people are still doing the rock paper scissors, and the armies are good, while not invincible

My kind of army. Cool

Not that I'll ever paint it. Looking at the Themes I've concocted, I know what I'll be doing for the next three years: fleshing out existing armies.

This would be fun to play against because of all those "modern firearms units". I never realized Bill turned us into a pike and shot rules set. Razz Rolling Eyes
