PostPosted: Mon Jul 18, 2016 1:36 pm    Post subject: Bronze Age Theme at Historicon 2017

Note: An updated Biblical Warrior (Sept 2016) is now available for free download in the Army Lists section. All armies below must come from the latest version.

The number after the list is the point value for that army, ie., it reflects the weighting.

I have my Late Hebrew lead that's generic enough (it's more Philistine looking than anything else. I thought this was Essex lead but if so, Essex no longer makes these figures) for use in some of the lists below).

If you have some of the later Biblical lead, I'm thinking of the various killer Assyrian lists, you can use that lead for the earlier Assyrians in this theme. However, I'd like to keep troop fudging to a minimum, thus, if you want to run Early Hebrew, it better not be easily identifiable lead from another period (like Thracians--not happening).

Per the last couple of years, once we have the weighting done, please play what you can and if you think we've screwed up, let me know. Do NOT keep it secret in the hopes of power gaming your way to victory in July 2017 with something unbalanced.

THE BRONZE AGE
End date is 1001 BC so no L Hebrews, demi-god Assyrians, etc. Will be weighted.

1-Early Dynastic Sumerian, 1760
2-Old/Middle Kingdom Egyptian, 1760
3-Elamite: Early Dynastic (1680), Old Elamite (1680), Middle Periods (1680) (no LC from Middle Period, thus ignore the listed minimum)
4-Nubian: Early, Middle Periods, 1760
5-Libyan: Early (1760), Middle Periods (1680)
6-Highland Barbarians: Non-Conquest (1760), Conquest (1680)
7-Bedouin Foot Nomads: Early (1760), Middle (1680), Late (1680)
8-Makkan, 1680
9-Early Syrian, 1680 (Any Steppe Nomad in Late Period can have shields at appropriate cost)
10-Akkadian/Later Sumerian, 1680
11-Old Babylonian/Old Assyrian, 1600
12-Kassite Babylonian, 1680
13-Bedouin Tribes (Midianite), 1600
14-Hyksos, 1760
15-Early Canaanite, Ugaritic, Syrian: No LC, 1680
16-Hittite: Early (1680), Late (1600)
17-Mittannian: No LC, 1680
18-Anatolian States, 1600
19-Mycenaean/Minoan Greek, 1600
20-NKE: No LC, 1680
21-Middle Assyrian: No LC; Late Period not allowed, 1680
22-Early Hebrew, 1760
23-Sea Peoples, 1680
24-Philistine/Late Canaanite: No LC; No Libyan Egyptian allies, 1680
25-Neo-Hittitle/Aramaean Syrian: No LC; Late Period not allowed, 1760
26-Dark Age/Geometric Greek: No Thracians, 1680
28-Neo-Babylonian: Early Period only. No LC. No Elamite/Bedouin Arab allies. Sub-generals must be Reg A. Assyrian Infantry Rules not in effect (so Royal Guard don't have any special rules except that if steady, they fight two full ranks at all times), 1680

Please note weightings are now included in the above post.

They could change. Hopefully not.

Posting this in a couple of places for best coverage.

Newline Designs in the UK has a great range of Bronze Age lead. It's now on sale at 25% off. Given the exchange rate, you can't afford not to place an order:

I'm getting Sumerian archers and the straddle cart chariots to round out my existing lead.

Why no Bedoins and Elamites as both are allowed in the tournament - and if it is for history thats fine - just fits the period and the other lists in the tourney (not that I am planning on playing them)

Thanks. If we need a player/ump, this provides the option of you swapping out between rounds, something like Mark play Round 1, Todd Round 2, then figure out who's in Round 3. Heh heh, this is soooo far in the future for me, I won't think about it until mid-June.

My Newline Sumerians arrived! I started work on the first straddle cart last night. Nice figures but they remind me of how old-school I am in that I still much prefer 25mm. These things aren't gonna blend in too well with my admittedly ancient and crude Garrison/SKT Sumerians but my options were limited.

I have no figures from anything Biblical Warrior related, but I'd like to play in the Theme tournament at Historicon this year. I'm sure I'm not the only person in this situation. Can we get some sense of the types of figures that might be available on loan? It's time for me to start thinking about an army.

If I could cobble together Elamite that would be awesome, but mainly I just want to play.

You best bet is to also email Bill and Derek and see what they might have.

I'll email you with what I have.

A cautionary note for everybody: I'll tolerate a certain amount of fudging but reserve the right to say no. For example, don't loan Mark your Neo-Assyrian lead and call it Elamite. Not. Going. To. Happen.

Sure, there's plenty of generic Bronze Age/Biblical Warrior stuff out there that'll work in lots of situations but there's also a lot of very unique stuff, think NKE, that I simply won't allow to be used too far afield.

Probably the biggest hurdle will be those of us with lots of 4-horse chariots that would work just fine as 2-horse chariots. Obviously we're not gonna rip horses off bases but this is a situation where if you can do something that clearly shows that they're 2-horse chariots, I'll allow them.

The safest thing for anybody to do is if you have any doubt, any doubt, email me a photo or two of what you're thinking about doing.

Yeah, I'm flexible but also particular all at the same time. Part of doing themes is pushing people into perhaps getting armies they don't have or, like me, fleshing out ones that needed help. If you're going the total loaner route, remember, beggars can't be choosers. And if you're using your own lead, you should have been fleshing out the collection.

Sheesh, this is sounding grumpier than I intended. The 9 Bronze Age armies we ran at Cold Wars were all well within my "I know it when I see it" standards so I'm probably overly worried about nothing.

Heads up: Minor changes made to weighting with a couple of added instructions for a few lists.

I'll be posting an updated Biblical Warrior shortly to reflect a few mistakes we've found but don't rush to print it if that's your thing. Download and use, yes.

Is the weighting at the top of page correct - it says posted July 16th - am I missing something?
