Sean's first round was actually me running my E Byz. Played Scott McD and the friggin Mongols 2-2.

I learned quite a bit about unit composition in Fast Warrior, namely you can't necessarily create units like you would in the bigger formats. Meaning my two 2E LC units were essentially worthless. LC probably needs to always be in either 4E or 6E units.

There will be some additional tweaks to the Fast Warrior rules (Rev 4 here we come!) based on our games. The table size and army size, however, appear to be good. Again, it's a work in progress that I'm hoping some of you will try.

People are always asking me about coming back for a non-HMGS event. Run something in Fast Warrior and I'll consider it.

Only one unit fell thru the ice, Alex's 12E block of bowmen in the Late Ott list. There was much applause from the other tables when it happened.

Matt's Timurids had a fantastic flaming camel cart model (built by Todd). Matt's camp was superlative.

I was, not surprisingly, rusty. Flank marches kept coming up and I'd forgotten that in many cases when units come on where other units are, I've typically just pushed the on-table units back to make room if there was plenty of room. Of course flank marches in this system remain an anathema to do. Please don't start responding to that issue on this thread.

“Historicon 2021” AAR

So great to see everyone again and be amongst people. Thank goodness Bill Low and Dave Markowitz have hosted events to stay sane prior to this, but awesome to come to a tournament like the days of old.

Played Rajput in the open. One of the “covid” armies I panted due to all the down time. Really enjoyable to use – Irreg A EHC/MC lancers, 6 elephants, some fair LC, some interesting LMI, and numerous, but crappy LI B. For the most part I played with the theory of send in the troops and see what happens. One has to be careful when to send in the troops, but once the action starts you have to funnel troops into the melee. The elephants are decent – Irreg B and 3 w/ bow.

Faced Sean-Patrick with his Mamluk forces in round 1. Open boards were NICT day 2 level of terrain 8 or more pieces of terrain on each with lots of woods and rocky hills. Desert board for me and Sean. I rolled well and chose the side with the gentle hill on my left flank and Sean had to navigate the dunes in the middle. I set up first command and sent my 8E unit of Ir D(1C) MI LTS,Sh unit on the left to be movable terrain and Sean countered with 3 units of MI LTS,Sh backed with bow – guess I’m sending over all the elephants, one on each flank, to support it. Center is LI and Cav – facing Sean’s Irreg A LMI 2HCW,Sh/Jls,Sh units. On my right was a woods and minor stream running north/south. My Irreg LMI filled the woods and faced some other LMI. Identical LC units faced each other.

Round one found these units charging impetuous against each other. I rolled down 1, Sean rolled down 3….. Win, pursue, catch rout. Deep in Sean’s backfield they will eventually shake but hold on all battle.

On my left the elephants rolled well vs. his foot and my Irreg D rolled +4(+3) and we were able to take the left flank. In the center I was lucky and able to lure his LMI to charge, shot them up, and rout them with my Cav. My CinC routs on my righto his EHK Franks and a few units shake, but by in large we win big 5-2.

Round 2 vs. Robert’s Seleucid…. Not really sure what to do. EHC don’t have a ton of targets with all the Pike, elephants, and LHI/LMI peltasts…..
I figured I’ll go for the sweep left. Terrain has a rocky hill smack dab in the middle of the field. On my right Robert dominates a gentle hill, but I have a rocky hill on my far right (hello LI unit which passes 3 counters to only rout on the last turn – turn Cool. On my left a gentle hill is the only worry on my side. I figure I’m going to send in my LMI in the middle and delay right and push left.

My LC and LI hold my right vs. 2 units of pike and 2 of elephants – for the most part. Because we played 8 turns my elephant (lure) eventually had to fight and was overwhelmed by the 2 units of elephants and a pike………

Center was where it was at – tons of fighting over the entire battle. Robert trying to get his companions into my LMI and EHC on his terms and my troops on my terms.
On my left Robert held me off for most of the battle, BUT I was able to take out enough units there to break a command so it was worth it. The center finds routing units and tons of disordered units. Robert sends in a Tarantine unit into my CinC’s flank pushing me back, disordered while disordered….. 1….. shake….. charged frontally by LC ………1……. Rout…… Center goes.. 5-3 to Robert.

Last round I faced off against Matt’s Timurid. We both had 8 at this point – Robert and Dave had 10.
Matt set up great – I was actually very nervous about the matchups where his arty were and elephants and foot. Needless to say Matt never rolled higher than a 2 in key spots having Reg B shake and rout and his foot shake and rout as well. While fun to win it wasn’t anything I truly did but Matt’s lack of luck won the day.

Your Rajputs, Matt's Timurid and Jevon's Kanem-Bornu all looked wonderful.

The bizzare little casino upstairs generated quite a bit of foot traffic for us. Even tho we were tucked behind the stairs, we were mostly in plain view of anybody who came down. Thus, we had a lot of gawkers, helped by the fact that we have the best painted armies around.

Yup...our modern armies and terrain help showcase Warrior. Glad to hear folks stopped by to take a look!

I think Bill was running Carthos in the open and not Trap Byz
