Chris,
The generic mini lists are something to look at, but remember the following:
1. We pride ourselves on the "history" of our rules.
2. We want our new players to get into that history, not remain commanders of
'irregular cav armies'.
3. The problem of coming up with the lists is not so big as it might look.
With approx 600 points and one general, and the requirement to fill compulsories
first, there is very little "choice" in 90% of armies. For the non-compulsory
part of the armies, we'll look to those troops that best give it its "feel" as
opposed to specialty elites. Those will come after the new guy has a few Little
Warrior games under his belt.

Indeed we may have one or two substitutions per army a la DBA.

Jon

Jon,

Love the idea for "Little Warrior"! I have a suggestion as to the fixed
lists.
Rather than have one for every list, why not have generic lists?

Examples:

Irregular Horde Cavalry Army:
1 Irregular General L, B, Sh with B Class bodyguards =
XXXpts.
2 Irregular Lancer/Jls, B, Sh Cavalry B class =
XXXpts.
3 Irregular LC, Jls, B, Sh Cavalry C Class =
XXXpts.

Regular Horde Cavalry
1 Regular General L, B, Sh with B Class bodyguards =
XXXpts.
2 Regular Lancer/Jls, B, Sh Cavalry B class = XXXpts.
3 Regular LC, Jls, B, Sh Cavalry C Class =
XXXpts.

Pike Army
1 Regular General L, Sh with B Class bodyguards = XXXPts.
1 Regular HC, L, Sh Cavalry B Class = XXXPts.
3 Regular Pike Units MI, P, Sh C Class = XXXPts.
1 Peltast Unit LMI, LTS, Jls, Sh C Class = XXXPts.

What I am getting at is that you can cover multiple lists by having generic
lists. The idea is to get somebody started in gaming and the list
"tweaking"
can come later on. This would make your job easier. I suppose you could
have options to substitute such as DBA has as well. But hey, I am not the
one that has to do the work! But I would think that some basic list
covering
major armies/types would be all that is needed. You could easily have
a percentage formula for existing lists to satisfy the other gamers that
still
insist on playing "their" army.

I like Greg want to encourage you to get the rules just right rather than
rushing
to press. There is nothing like having to buy edition XXX every year!

Thanks,

Chris Tebo

Well if you give people these generic armies to fight with, it would allow
them to find out if they like the concept of wargaming, which would then draw
them into the history of the different armies like Macedonians, Romans and
such.
Just my opinion

Hello Jon,

I am delighted that you are building these beginner's tools into the
game. As a beginner myself I certainly would like the comfort of pre-built
small forces, so I would not constantly be thinking, am I playing the rules
correctly or is my poorly constructed army playing me?
Also, on the web site, it may be useful for actual beginners to post
their experiences and tips to learning, because those with prior experience
may not hit on exactly what a beginner needs when tutorials or help files
are done. Experts tend to take some things as so obvious they need not be
mentioned, while a newbie like me may find that bit of information the key
to having fun with the game.
Being part of the toy and game industry I am about to have some free
time after the last several months of getting our products ready for the
holiday season. A kind fellow has offered to help me learn, but it will be
much easier with the pre-built armies. Thanks again for your hard work and
patience.

Best Regards,

Michael

Ed

Good point. I am thinking there is no reason not to do both! And we
probably will.
