So does that mean feminists should play 15mm? Or does size not matter, but
rather how they are used?

This is a problem caused by the ground scale in 7th/Warrior, which is
distorted across the depth. But I can (and have done elsewhere) go on and
on about this… It now awaits my finishing a long article about the history
of ground scales in Ancients, and its publication somewhere.

John,
The 15mm players are out there, so don't worry. I have to be since my
teaching salary makes it easier to buy 15's. The talk of 25mm is so hot
because the NICT is near and 7th (Warrior) has a lot more vocal 25mm
players.
There are more shock troops in 25mm than in 15mm. 15mm is a lights game
where you have to set up your opponent with your lights and punch a hole in
his army somewhere. 25mm is a heavy weight type army since the board is
reduced and you don't have to cover so much table space. They are two
different games and it is very difficult to win with your traditional
skirmish armies in 25mm.

Todd,

I figured the 15mm players were out there. But all the 25 talk had me
worried. I agree 15 is a game for maneuver and skirmish. Same in DBM.

Sometimes I think there is too much of that and think about reducing the
size of the board.

Just so you know:

You can play on any size table you want. Warrior will make several
recommendations based on the type of game each generally provides.

No one except the player/tourney organizer says a 25mm game should be on an
8x5 and a 15mm on a 4x6. Certainly we do not mandate this. It is NOT a rule.

As for ground scale, I've been in formations all my adult life from platoon
to division and am VERY comfortable with the men per pace of the elements in
Warrior, which IS a rule. I have photos of formations from 100 to 4400 men
on a well-lined football field as my primary reference for what these things
look like in real life. That plus what the ancient authors tell us (which
these actual formations confirm) is about the best we can do.

The NY/Conn. crew runs 15mm tournaments on a 3' by 5' surface.
Reducing the board size does create a feel simlar too 25mm, and also allows
for more definitive results in a 3 hour battle.

I think it would be a good idea to try reducing the 15mm board size at
Fall-in or Coldwars.

I think that having two different size proportion between tables and figures
in the two sets is a good thing, because it sort of gives us two different
games, 25's being a bit more smash mouth (so I have heard) and 15's being a
bit more subtle. I think making 15mm games "little 25's" would be taking
something away from the game.

>Greg's opinion is one shared by many 7th gamers. To provide some background,
the only reason we play on the size tables we play on is because that's what
we get at the convention. Tables are 30 inches wide and either 6 feet or 8
feet in length. PUtting two tables together gives 5 feet of depth. The 6x4
size is a holdover from the last daze of 6th, early daze of 7th and it just
seemed to "work". From experience I can say that anything wider breaks up the
game into component sectors of the battlefield and anything to deeper just
invites people to dick around more getting into position and since time is of
the essence in a tourney, depth also seems to be "just right".

>And undoubtedly, it's neat being able to play different styles of armies and
games usingthe same rules sets with differening table size to troop scale.

Scott

Size does matter, to your back as well on the field.
25's certainly look better. But 15's are a lot easier to transport.
