How many 15mm players showed up at Historicon? It looks like Warrior
right now is a 25mm-dominated game.

We always get at least 6. Remember, one Ho (Bill) is a die hard 15mm player.

I had a very lengthy conversation about this subject with a friend who is
very interested in getting into Warrior. In coming from a plethora of
miniature games, it is his feeling that Warrior is making a big mistake by
not having an "Official" Scale.

I informed him that the majority of the play is 25mm, but that most people
own both 25mm and 15mm armies.

What is the general sentiment of scale at tourneys? How many annual
tourneys are 15mm vs. 25mm?

Not sure what Scott meant here. There were a heck of a lot more 15mm players at
HCon than 6.

Not only will we not restrict players to one scale, we are expanding available
scales to include 30mm, with a means of easily using figures based for WAB in a
Warrior game. See my next Warrior clinic in Spearpoint.

> I informed him that the majority of the play is 25mm,>>

Not sure that is true. Think it is very much a local thing. By far the
majority of play in my area, with a core group of ten players, is in 15mm. But
in other places I have lived, 25mm was prevalent

<< but that most people own both 25mm and 15mm armies.>>

I, for one, own three 25mm armies, but a couple dozen 15mm.

There are several issues here -
-what people already have in one's area
-the ability to play in the NICT, if qualified, which is in 25mm
-availability of table size
-expense
-painting ability
-the fact that NASAMW plays 25mm and 15mm on different table 'proportions',
meaning a 25mm army covers more raw table than the same army would in 15mm -
giving a different 'play' to the army at that point value and table size
combination

<< What is the general sentiment of scale at tourneys? >>

We continue to see a desire to have both scales in tourneys, but with the big
competition in 25mm exclusively

< How many annual tourneys are 15mm vs. 25mm?>>

Historicon has a 25 and 15 mini, 25 and 15 theme, 25 and 15 open and 25 NICT,
for example.

Of course, having said all this, 25mm is the manly scale...lol

Not sure what Scott meant here. There were a heck of a lot more 15mm players
at HCon than 6.

>Please note I said "at least 6". Hcon this year had 16 15mm in the Open whic
h was double what we had the year before. Cold Wars Minis in 15mm have tended
to draw fewer players, for example only 8.

>What's good is that even though I as Ump have pushed 25mm for years, 15mm is
still vibrant and has a good core group.

I for one would like to see continued growth in both scales, as well as a draw
in from WAB to Warrior 30mm.

An existing pool of people actually using the "30mm" bracket would certainly
help out those who like me would like to play both WAB and Warrior. It would
shut up our whining, at least!
I had a heck of a time mounting some Redoubt spearmen even on a LMI base for
Mark C to borrow for H'con. 30mm basing would work out fine.
How is the feedback coming on the 30mm standards? Are people using it?

not having an "Official" Scale.

>There's another ancients game widely played that while it doesn't "officially
" have an official scale, it might as well have. I think it makes the overall
appeal of the game suffer, heh heh, which isn't a bad thing. It also seems t
o attract a certain type of gamer that I'd prefer not to meet (often) across t
he table. Ask anyone here who started out in 15mm but eventually converted to
25mm (Eric Turner and Rob Turnball come to mind) and they'll tell you they *m
uch* prefer 25mm. That being said, the two games are different and we potent
ially have more tourney options by having multiple scales. For instance, play
ing the 1200 point 15mm Mini on a 6x5 table (as we were supposed to do at Hcon
this year) provided a more open table experience than would otherwise be poss
ible in 25mm, even if we made that table appropriately larger.

I informed him that the majority of the play is 25mm, but that most people
own both 25mm and 15mm armies.

>Hmmmm, it's certainly true that most 25mm players also own 15mm armies but no
t the other way around. In fact, many of the metro DC Warrior gamers always p
referred 15mm despite our playing most games in 25mm.

What is the general sentiment of scale at tourneys? How many annual
tourneys are 15mm vs. 25mm?

>As Jon mentioned, that is really driven more by what the local core group has
than any nationwide trend. For example, for years the California group was k
nown for 25mm, the DC metro area also 25mm (but see above comment). But go no
rth to New England and Bill's area and it switches primarily to 15mm.

Pat,
This is silly. A simple discussion with this fellow would lead him to
understand that more scales are better than a single. It allows us to play
massive horse battles on smaller tables and still play our beloved 25's. I
cannot think of any rule set available that has an "official scale" or limits
itself in such a way.

Yea, Yea, yea WAB plays vast majority in 25's and it is rare to see a DBx game
in anything other than 15's, but defacto is the key word, because I am pretty
sure that both have scales in place in their rules for the other scale(s). I
lurk on 3 web sites dealing with both and although DBx rarely talks about 25's,
WAB does, not infrequently, address the use of different scale troops.
