It's one of the army-specific items that add colour. Like cavalry fighting in
1 and a half ranks. Applicable to several of the South American armies and
some others I believe.

Does anyone have any experience with the newest weapon in Warrior? I
have an Aztec army that I nearly completed prior to DBM (Don't want
to go there, but that is the reason its not complete) and I'm about
to pull the cobwebs off and finish. It seems that 1HCW are basically
the same combat factors as JLs and fight in the same number of
ranks. Am I missing something?

David,
You need to go into the files section of the Warrior discussion group and
download New World Warrior. New World Warrior represents perhaps thousands of
hours of research by Scott Holder and company to give us a FREE set of army
lists! It is a most impressive work and has the extra weapon rules you are
missing. Scott, Bill and the other fine researchers have really done a nice
piece of work here. In fact, I used much of it in my class I teach dealing with
early American cultures.
Good luck,

lol! Yes I do, but the social history of the Aztec and friends along with the
that of the Inca can be enriched can't it? My male students enjoy the military
aspects of history. . . After all, history is moved by religion, economics, and
WARS.

It was published in New World Warrior.

found via our web site on in the files section of the e-group.

context. 1HCW was developed with Romans in mind as well. That whole thang was
playtested at Crusades earlier this year. Todd Kaeser or any of those who
participated can tell you about their experiences.

I was thinking the same thing myself. If an Aztec's obsidian-bladed
club can be a 1HCW, why can't a gladius or a spatha--especially if the
soldier is trained to use it as a primary weapon?
As it is, I'm deeply chagrined at the delay of the Imperial Warrior
lists. I'm all set to start on a Late Roman army in 25mm--and have on
in 15mm for DBM. I have the WRG 6th ed. lists, but I don't really like
the Late Roman list in it.

done. We're now refining, waiting the review crew's comments, etc. It'll be
for sale at Cold Wars (early March).

Hi All,
Personally i'm a little worried by the idea of HTW and 1hcw romans.
It makes them even more expensive than they already are and no better
against the lance armed cavalry they spend most of their time getting
ridden down by. What about Spaniards (same sword as the romans)? or
for that matter Gallic slashing swords or egyptian axe/mace men. Or
is it the Romans training that makes them 1hcw troops? Is this new
weapon (that I originally thought was only introduced for new world
armies) going to be an option or a compulsory purchase (for those who
dont like this interpretation)? I realise I should probably just wait
for the lists to come out so I can find out for my self but I'm
currently painting a Celtiberian army and my curiosity got the better
of me. Does anyone know the answer to these questions?

be said that if the rules stand as I have in the review copy, you will be
most pleased, and each of your concerns will melt.

a 5th Ho this is his first crack at the reviewing process) provide a perspective
on this since anything coming from me.....
>Let me address one of the issues Martin raised, this one to do with the
specific weapon type. Yes, the Roman swords of the Polybian and Marian eras owe
their origins to the Spanish types. However, tactical training, doctrine,
discipline and formational development are night and day, hence, the Spanish
won't be getting the same treatment. We're more interested in how unit
formations fought and attempting to replicate that effect on the table than we
are with blanket statements about "well they had the same sword so they must get
the same benefits". That came out grumpy, it's not intended to be:) :)

It's nice to see the Roman infantryman (especially in the the early
imperial periods) get a boost against infantry types they
historically dominated, whatever that boost might be.
