 |
|
I polled the 30+ folks who participated in the 2003 NICT. 23 responded. Here
are the questions on the polling results. N/O=No Opinion.
I'm sure everybody will be able to spin these to their liking:) :)
Bottom line: for 2004, the NICT will remain in the current format with one
possible exception: number of rounds for the tournament. If we get 24+ people
attending then we'll consider expanding the format (adding a round) but only if
we have upwards of 30 people. Keep in mind that if by expanding the tournament
in terms of rounds, we might end up losing enough participants (who prefer the
current one-day preliminary commitment) so that having an extended tourney
becomes moot. We're in a somewhat paradoxical situation here so I ask everyone
to bear with me should we get to that point. If we have to expand the number of
rounds, the existing 3 preliminary rounds with a cut will continue. The
question ends up being how many people make the cut, how many rounds to hold
thereafter, and whether or not to carry over preliminary scores or start anew.
Don't swamp me with "ideas" just yet, let's see if we even get to this point.
It does mean that everybody should check the Warrior NICT qualifier list and
tell me if they plan on participating in 2004. The earlier I get a head count,
the better able I'll be to setup something different if it comes to that.
POLL RESULTS
1) Should the NICT alternate scales each year (15mm one year, 25mm the next)?
YES: 7
NO: 13
N/O: 3
2) Should each round of a 1600 pt tourney be reduced to 3.5 hours in length? Or
1200 pt tourney to 2.5 hours?
YES: 9
NO: 13
N/O: 1
3) Should any terrain be prohibited from being used in "Open" tournaments?
YES: 6
NO: 16
N/O: 1
4) Should 1200/1600 pt tournaments be one or two list events?
ONE: 13
TWO: 7
N/O: 3
5) If the NICT has 24+ participants, should it be expanded to a multi-day, 5-6
round event?
YES: 15
NO: 7
N/O: 1

Thanks Scott for printing those results. YOU ARE a decent guy. I certainly can
understand why the majority of 25 mm guys would not want to have a 15mm
tournament. But what if the wording were different which allowed a 15mm NICT
which would be seperate. I recall that we usually had lots more people show up
for the 15mm NICT than the 25mm version. Opening up that option certainly
wouldn't hurt the 25mm event that much Would it?

Okay, okay. First, to be fair, let's just admit right off the bat
that I and my valiant and well-dressed Greeks never have been, and
probably never will be, qualified for the NICT. That having been
said, I might suggest that perhaps you could let those who do qualify
pick their scale. This would also nicely solve the problem of more
than 24 entrants, while making for two champions (Hey, it worked for
the Spartans and the Romans, didn't it?)Of course, this has the
disadvantage (common to many of our unsolicited suggestions on this
list) of producing more work for Scott.
Even if I could ever win enough games in a row to make the cut, then
I'd still have to paint an army i don't have. Perhaps many good
players have the same quandary. This would solve it.
Actually, my first suggestion (which I knew Scott wouldn't buy) is
that in the NICT everyone should have to play Greek Hoplites. Then
we'll really see who the best PLAYERS are! :)

Scott,
Obviously I am not speaking for the lot, but (not withstanding the fact that
I need to qualify for NICT first) will only attend NICT if there was a 15-mm
tournament. I have no desire to attend a 25-mm tournament or paint/borrow a
25-mm army which means that can never play in NICT. I wonder how many other
people feel the same way? Is it many or a few? If you only canvas the
people that currently attend the 25-mm NICT, then you are always going to
get a skewed results. I do not know what the perfect answer is, but I do
believe only having 25-mm NICT is the incorrect thing to do. (My personal
opinion) Although, I wonder how attendance would be if we had a 15-mm one
year and 25-mm the next.
Scott, I appreciate everything you doing. Please do not take this as
personal criticism or an attack on you, but rather someone voicing an
opinion from the other side.
Just my 2 cent,
Happy War Gaming
Harlan
