There arem't too many 25mm Indian manufacturers out there.
I am re-doing mine with RAFM infantry, because they are "true 25mm" and are
quite sturdy. They are nice figures, but you have to glue the head, weapon
and shield in place.
Old Glory figures will give you a hard time fitting the infantry on Warrior
stands, with their billowing skirts and exaggerated poses.
Essex are slightly larger than RAFM, but will fit OK on the stands. They
are a bit more expensive.
I have a lot of Hinchliffe infantry, but they are weak in the ankles, and I
have had a few give out from normal wargaming usage.
1st Corps have just come out with a new range, which is getting raves on the
Warhammer Ancients group.

Bottom line:
Infantry: If you don't mind all the figures being in the same pose, go with
Essex infantry. Check out 1st Corps samples for how well they fit on the
stand before you go with them.

Elephants: All are good, and the more variety the better. My favorite is
by Essex. RAFM's is beautiful but a bit on the scrawny side. I also have
Hinchliffe, Lamming, and a converted Garrison Khmer for variety.

Chariots: My favorite is Hinchliffe. Old Glory's try to crowd all 6 crew
into the cab, and that just doesn't work. I bought some Essex cavalry
figures to mount on the outriger horses as drivers to alleviate crowding.
The Essex chariot is a bitch to assemble, as the parts have no "keys", but
are just butt joints. Should look OK when done, but I just didn't bother
with mine and sold it unassembled.

Cavalry: Mine are Minifigs, so not so hot. But Indian cavalry sucks
anyway, so I never bothered to upgrade. :)

Maiden Guard: All have bodacious ta-tas, with faces that would stop a
clock, with the exception of the Garrison Khmer Maiden Guard. It's a bogus
unit anyway, so I just use them as decorative crew for commanders' chariots
and elephants.

I have not seen any 1st Corps Indians, but they get good reviews. Newline
has an archer only.

>Irregular elephants are quite nice and quite affordable. Generic
enough to be almost anything. I have, hmmmm, *counting* 20 or so
Irregular elephants (Khmer, Numidian). Plus, with an Irregular bolt
shooter and flimsy elephant platform, you can actually model the Khmer
elephant-mounted bolt shooter with minimal work. Expensive platform but
man, what a concept:)Smile:)

Maiden Guard: All have bodacious ta-tas, with faces that would stop a
clock, with the exception of the Garrison Khmer Maiden Guard. It's a
bogus
unit anyway, so I just use them as decorative crew for commanders'
chariots
and elephants.

>Bogus? Maiden Guard? Dem's fighting words:)SmileSmile The main reason I
got into the Khmers were the Garrison Khmer Maiden Guard foot figures.
And the cav figures are fantastic. Although I'm a big Irregular fan
(good thing too or the Sales Ho would be all over me), alas, their
Maiden Guard figures (foot and mounted) just don't hold a candle to
Garrison's. Which begs the question, are the Garrison figures still
available? That leads to another Garrison question, legend has it that
one of the last lines they put out before they went TU was some
Macedonian/pike trash line that was superb. I've never actually seen
any of those figures so am wondering. And, of course, I'd love to get
some more Maiden Guard foot and cav.

>And although they are a crappy unit, I almost always have a 4-6 element
contingent of Maiden Guard on the table when I trot out the Khmer.

Garrison are now available again, at
amazonminiatures.com
along with QT, old Dixon. Paul is also going into Chinese armies of
dynasties in a big way.

Dave,
I think that Jake Kovel's irregular miniatures
are superb! Lots of poses and they paint up quite
nicely. Why don't you go to your search engine and
type in silver eagle wargame supplies or email Jake at
eaglewars@.... Jake is very responsive and willing
to help out a fellow wargamer! Good Luck in your
search!

Dave,
Grant Johnson gave me a complete 25mm minifig
Indian Army to sell for him when I had the chance.
Well, here's the chance. I don't have his email on
hand but I think he is a member of this list...

Jon, do you happen to have Grants email address? We
can find out what Grant wants for it and I'm sure it
would be a very inexpensive alternative. One note, I
guess Grant and Matt Fairleigh sat down and did
nothing but painted shields because although all of
the figures are unpainted, almost all of the shields
are painted up quite nicely!

A long time ago Dave Hoyles of QT Models did an ecxcellent range of
indians, the cavalry, elephants and chariots were all excellent. I
assume these are now in the possesion of Amazon. Try looking at their
website

Dave I have been doing 25mm Indians for years. The answer to your question
depends on what time period you are looking at.If you are looking at ancient
Indians(ie Biblical Warrior list) Essex Miniatures are the best although
exspensive. Those are the figures I have. If you are looking for the later
lists Feudal or Medieval I have not found a manufacturer yet for them. What
you can do though is get figures for Rajputs, Islamic Ghulams, Ottoman Turks,
Hindus from the Colonial Wars Range. Old Glory, Essex are the two that I use
the most. Although there many others as well. I am sure many of the members
of this group can add comments about my Army as it has been around for years.
GOOD LUCK GREG HAUSER
