Warrior Ancient and Medieval Rules

What would people recommend to use in 25mm to depict this nasty
little guys.

I am finishing my Berber army so need (want) several units.

I understand they come from the Mediterranean area, so some type of
medieval Spanish type of figure perhaps. From previous posts I take
it I would have a fair bit of latitude in shield design!

Mine are Spanish Javelinmen from the Old Glory 100 Years war range. They are
correct, come in a lot of poses and have good hands for both the long spear and
short as well as coming with bucklers.

The almugavar (choose your prefered spelling) are from Spain. They are a
mixture of Christian and Moslem refugees in the Catalan region (later spreading
to Aragon) where they escaped to the various hard to reach valleys. They
adopted a tribal government based on Islam although they were predominantly
practicing Roman Catholics.

Irregular make Almugavar figures (3 poses IIRC) and you can get them from Jacob
Kovel at Silver Eagle. I know that is where I'm planning to order mine from.

They *should* be shieldless. There is almost no evidence of them using shields.
But, if you do give them shields they should be small round, almost buckler
style or ardagas (the heart-shaped Spanish shield).

I find myself agreeing with Jon here. I got to witness part of his "Grudge"
match against Charles Yaw's Sassanids at the conclusion of Historicon.
They(Jon's Moogs) are well done figures and depict the flavor of the Catallan
Almugavars. Remember, these are fairly rustic and nasty(bathing equals crossing
a river) people from the hills that raided Christian and Moor alike. If you were
a farmer, you needed to hide your farm animals as well as your daughters from
their predation equally! :)
