Some have given their thoughts on OW here, despite the fact that they have
not read through it all the way, have not played these lists and not everyone
has theirs yet. Here's my take - although quite biased of course, I have
been living with these lists for many months in their various forms and I was
part of the development team.

1. It is the best product of its type, period. There is no gaming source
on ancient/medieval asian armies better than OW.

2. It will make some armies better in open comps than they were under 7th.
No one is arguing this, nor do we at FHE want to argue this. We are quite
pleased this is true, actually.

3. It will make some armies that were competitors under 7th but with H+C or
society lists slightly less well off in opens, but still very competitive.
The only reason we could or would do this is because the historical record
could not possibly justify the way these armies were presented prior to OW.
That's our collective opinion, of course. But at the end of the day, it is the
four of us who have the final say on FHE lists.....

4. They will make no army in another list book worse. Fore example, prior
to OW, Sassanids and Late Romans were competitive from IW. OW's publication
does not change this situation.

These things add up to the fact that the total number of armies from the
list of 276 that will be considered competitive will be far greater when all FHE
books are published than the list of total competitive armies under 7th.
This is a very, very good thing.

Just my $0.02
Jon

Truely, the top players are playing well with anything. My learning is that
in selecting a list - see the forest for the trees - think about how the
army plays out on the board in total for the points and elements available
in aggregate.

Again as one of the better players (result over here have borne this out
over many years) i dont disagree. I just prefer a level playing field for the
newbs who do not have our expertise in even selecting a list, never mind drawing
one up and then using it.

It is only an opinion based on experience.
