I'm looking for ways to bring up a phantom "table space" and put
terrain and units on it 'to scale'. Anybody have anything like this?

Just power point right now.

Although a Cyberboard gamebox could work as well.

I’ll look into it.

I use Powerpoint, but not very extensively - mostly just to see how my
army will look at setup.

Frank, Todd, Ewan et al,

Just fyi, I was not going to mention it until it was further down
the pipe, but...

I am working on a (very simple) Windows managed .NET framework C++
program that displays troop elements as rectangles with oval figure
shapes (like the examples in most rulebooks). You can click on an
element or group of elements (a unit in Warrior for instance) and
move them all at once. An info text is displayed on each element,
different for the owner and the opponent (could be for instance "SHK
L,Sh" versus "Household Gendarmes unit1 RegA SHK L,Sh" or something
like that).

No grids, full freedom of rotational and translational movement.
Just like minis.

I do not have a clue how terrain placement will be handled yet.

We are not talking now or next week here. It is a volunteer effort I
just undertook to do for the heck of it so I could actually play
someone. Perhaps about a month, and even then do not expect a fully-
supported program.

But it should work for element and terrain placement and let you
move troops around (as elements or units) with takebacks and measure
distances reliably. There should be a log you can use to communicate
die rolls and trash-talk to your opponent.

No reference to Warrior especially and no rules of Warrior will be
enforced by the program, but the log will show how far each unit
moved and how many degrees it wheeled before moving. Up to the
players to take it from there.

Some more interactive parts of the game are going to be a bit slow
playing this way, unless someone can think of a way to handle it
better. Once again, up to the players.

Programming is slow going, there are a few other things that take
time away from it and I have actually not written any code for a
week or so. Anyone who wants to help write Windows managed .NET C++
code (or port it to an open-source framework when it is done so it
works across operating systems) or _critically_ "playtest" in an
actual Warrior game in about a month or two let me know when the
time comes.

I figure _if_ it gets done turn the thing over to NASAMW as free-
ware or share-ware or whatever you call it as it is independent of
rule sets.

Yes, in the meantime you have PowerPoint, or some generic
equivalent, but that is tricky in terms of millimetrics and
measurements in general, and the shape rotations are a bit clunky.
Still it is here today and everyone knows how to use it.

And certainly if you only want to work out deployments and terrain
and not actually move the units around afterwards then PowerPoint is
probably the way to go. Even if you want to move them obviously it
works to some degree as can be seen in Todd's sample games.

I still do not see how CyberBoard could be used if it is hex-based
unless you wanted something quite different from a miniatures game.
But it may have come a long way since I tried it last a few years
ago. I also know, however, it would take me as long to make a
CyberBoard gamebox and scenario as it would to write this program!
But if you can make it work then that would be great as I would not
have to pursue this and can work on other things I'd probably like
more.
