I'm sorry that Jon has taken so much flack for this thread. I thought he was
doing a service to beginning players by trying to bring in a real sense of
differing levels of competition.

So here's a "definition" for consideration; it has the advantage of being
empirically verifiable.

Big Boys: A "big boy" is either: (a) someone who, under WRG 7th or under
Warrior, has won the Nationals at Historicon or been part of a winning team at
Cold Wars; (b) someone who, in NASAMW tournament play against a present or past
national or team champion, wins at least 50% of their games.

Probably that totals about 50 or so people who meet that definition. It isn't
hard to see who they are by looking at the last few years of NICT qualifiers,
though there are some top players who never make it to Lancaster. My hunch is --
and I'm just guesing here, of course -- that any of the big boys would be
perfectly comfortable playing anyone who is not in any scale, with any number
of points.

OK, Mark. By this, I'm a big boy. Every year I've competed (read
wasn't deployed for Uncle) in the last five years I've qualified for
nationals, but I cannot make it to PA due to family constrains on
travel (would have to bring a 1.5 year old).

However, I don't consider myself a "big boy". I am, rather, the guy
the Big Boys don't want to meet in round 2, also known as
a "spoiler". Just as tactically comtepent, but not as consistent.
