Hi Kelly and all,
I suppose I have to weigh in here and some of you are not going to
like this. The list again is from Hellenistic / western
(figuratively and literally) direction. In the Late period
Artaxerxes II fought dismounted in the mountains against the
northern and eastern satrapies, ever wondered why the main Persian
army never followed Xenophon? The main event was to recoup the
Bactrian, Gandarian provinces that sided with his (Cyrus the
Younger) brother. Artaxerxes having settled the rebellion. Set about
stopping Scythian incursions, in large part with the threat and of
(now loyal) Bactrian troops, including foot which show up again in
the same area for the Bactrian Greek list. "Strangely" But show up
on the Hellenistic "radar" after Gaugemela, there is a reason Darius
was fleeing to Bactrian... The early list started to broach regional
troops. Maybe more later and good night.
Be Well all,
Craig

***kelly*** So then what your saying is that this list only covers one part of
what the army could possibly levy as opposed to the earlier list that allows for
regional differnces?

Good Idea! I like the way you think! Keep coming up with good ideas like
that, and I'll have to nominate you for the president of the Warrior Fan Club!
I was thinking about painting up some horses and ripping of the second riders
from my camels. More work and I shudder at the thought of doing this. What do
you think?
