Support them on the flanks, expect them to be beaten occasionally. They are
usually fairly cheap and can do a lot of damage. A two edged sword, but i like
mine in the seleucid army.

Really big units. Derek won the NICT this year using, among other things, huge
units of MI missile troops.

I've put these guys behind ditched pallisades, On hills, and behind
brush, yet they always seem to rout on contact. I can't seem to make
the shooting effective enough from 6E to keep LMI from charging in,
nor does anyone oblige me by setting mounted in front of them.
Perhaps the key is Regular MI B, where I can manuver them to where I
need them.
Right now, I'm at a crossroads. I'm considering converting my Norman
army into a pre-feudal German in an effort to increase the
effectiveness of my missle troops. I would have to rebase the bow
and CB into LMI. The downside is the lack of J armed LMI without
taking the Poles. Take the Italians and get regular MI CB, or take
the Poles and get woods troops.
If I can find a way to use the Norman MI B, then I'll not rebase.

Were these regulars? the testing waver on these guys as shieldless
MI hurts a non-waver testing guy like me :)
Irregulars are just too difficult to get where the enemy mounted are
lurking, and LI can skirmish them out for some time.
I guess if you had something like 4 32man units crushing forwards
slowly you'd eventually get to the other side

Regular D, I believe.
We're talking 12E units here. A guy has to shoot you for 96 to get that
waver....

Gobs of Reg D MI B In huge blocks (48 figs) with Some

I played Derek at the last Derekcon. He destroyed me with a Comnenen
Byzantine army using the same tactics as he does with the Silla. He
forces you to commit a large number of expensive units to hold your
center against the bow and crushes your flanks. I had to commit most
of my army against some Skuts and Psiloi (all cheap reg D, without
upgrades) while he used three small regular lancers to pin and kill
my flank unit. He rolled my army up in four or five bounds. I felt
totally used. A mini blitzkrieg schwerepunkt, or to quote Nathanial
Bedford Forrest he was the firstest with the mostest on my left flank.

I like to buy mine as Regular "D" class troops. All the shooting power and
maneuverability without the cost! And in many lists you only have to give 1/2 of
them shields making them even cheaper! What's even better, some players will
send their knights into my fat units of cheap bowmen which will hang around long
enough for me to clean up on the flank he left hanging and then on the knights
that are stuck on the bowmen!
