Well, lets see. While Europe north of the Pyrenees was going through the
dark ages post Tours, Spain, Sicily and the Middle East were in a period of
tremendous growth and enlightenment. There was medicine and calculus as
opposed to gloom and warfare to the North. Science and art abounded while
those saved northern Europeans were hunting for witches. [Obvious
exaggeration intended]
Don't know who wrote it, but it was clearly a joke. You, sir, need to
lighten up. Oh and by the way if the only victorious war you can find in
France's history is the victory by someone who would not have even considered
himself French you have to wonder if the old adage about there being truth in
all satire isn't a little true here.

Gee I wonder why that list misses the repulse of Moslem invaders in
700AD/CE at the battle of Tours. Without France, Moslem influence
would have moved north of the Pyrenees and stayed there for how long
nobody knows. Care to speculate on the effect on Europe of the
effect of Charles Martel losing that particular day?
This kind of arrogant nation-slamming is ignorance and anti-
historical thought at its worst.

At least give credit for what you lift. I found it following links on
